Internetbox 2 firmware on Swisscom network not updated

  • My Internetbox 2 Swisscom to Swisscom Internet is not updated.

    New firmware appears to be 10/14/30

    My Internetbox 2 has had 14.00.52 on it for a very, very long time.

    Why doesn’t the automatic update happen?

    I cannot explain why it was possible to download the firmware manually for years and now this is no longer possible for so-called security reasons.

    Thanks

      Sometimes it helps to turn off the IB. Otherwise call support. You can trigger the update manually.

      Regarding your second question: because the situation is dynamic. Attackers learn and find new ways and so you always have to adapt to keep security high. This is the case everywhere in the (IT) world.

    @myrica

    Normally it should be done automatically, as this often happens and is updated much later for some users.

    Otherwise you can ask support.

    The IB2 is no longer an issue at this location anyway and there is no disadvantage due to the older FW (well, I don’t know anyone). FTTH will be available there at the beginning of September 2024 and there will be a new router upon migration. This is also the reason why the house was not connected to one of the existing FTTS network elements.

    Thank you for the explanations.

    I’m curious to see whether fiber optics will come here in September 2024. The house connection has been installed in the house for almost two years. Not much has happened since then.

    Greetings to all

    @Roger G There is already one crucial point: security. Security gaps are fixed with every release. This is completely normal, as many parts of the software are open source and if gaps are found there, then there is a fix that ends up in the router. Mostly nothing dramatic, but better safe than sorry.
