We can only hope that the refresh rates of various apps will also be automatic; unfortunately, this is not the case with Android 12 yet. You can set whatever you want on your devices; it is the job of the individual providers (Netflix, Amazon,…) to adapt this suffering to Android 12.

The fact that it can work is proven on Apple TV, where the respective adaptation works perfectly.

The TV-Box 5 had the latest version of Android TV right from the start.

The two previous versions of TV boxes are now simply being upgraded step by step to the same version as the latest TV-Box.

@mige_stalder the function seems to be missing on the TV Box 5, even in the April 2024 firmware. @ThomasS do you know when the auto frame rate function will come?

As a tester of the TV boxes, I know that automatic adjustment to the frame rate of video content from streaming services for the new Android TV platform of the Swisscom TV boxes is still on the to-do list.

However, a specific date for this is not known.

This means it will simply come when it is fully developed and tested.

    @Stephan_76, @Werner

Currently it is/would be ATV 14…I just installed it on a “NoName-Android TV Box” out of interest….

    By the way, it also runs wonderfully on a Raspi… (Pi4 & Pi5 tested…)

Why Swisscom is still working with Android 12 is a mystery to me… 😉

Because the “latest” firmware also has to be tested on the recipient’s side.

You can also see that with Microsoft or Apple that there are sometimes problems on the user side.

@Boschi64 This probably has more to do with how long it takes to develop a TV-Box (hardware-software). And during this time you don’t do any OS updates at the same time. At first you are happy when you get the box up and running with all its functions.

Now you first change the two predecessors of the TV5 box to Android TV and when that’s done, then you look at the topic of updates. But there must also be a benefit for the developers, because Swisscom then puts its own OS on top of it.

    Hello @Stefan3

It all depends on whether the app publisher allows this.

And to make the whole thing a little more complicated. If an app is available on Box 5, there is no guarantee that it will also be available on Box 21. Here’s an example:

Play SRF Streaming TV & Radio

    Box 5 ✅

    Box 21 ❌

Since it is now the end of May, are there any customers already having experience with Android TV on the Box 21? And does anyone happen to know what the Wingo Box 21 looks like?
