So I have an Honor 90 (I think it’s quite similar to the Magic 5 Pro) and I can say the following:

VoLTE works perfectly with Swisscom (Wingo and directly with Swisscom) and with Sunrise (Quickline).

5G also works perfectly with Swisscom/Wingo and Quickline

Wifi calling doesn’t work with Swisscom/Wingo or with Quickline, the option isn’t even available in the settings

    @Thoams

Yes, of course, nothing is blocked by the network operator. Only VoLTE shouldn’t work, at least that’s what someone wrote 9 months ago. I can’t say whether it’s still the same today after various updates. If that’s the case, it would be a no-go for me to buy a device today that doesn’t work with VoLTE. This is sometimes the case, especially with more exotic devices.

There is a workaround to enable the “Wifi calling” or “VoWifi” option. It takes a little patience and two different apps (Shizuku and Pixel IMS, both available in the Play Store) as well as a PC to connect the smartphone. The ADB tool must be installed on this.

    Proceed:

    1. Download and unzip SDK Platform Tools (PC): SDK Platform Tools
    2. Install Shizuku App from Play Store: Shizuku App
    3. Install Pixel IMS from the Play Store (do not open yet!): Pixel IMS
    4. Enable USB debugging on the Android device:
      1. Settings
      2. Over the phone
      3. Press “Build number” approx. 7 times in quick succession (activates developer mode)
      4. back to Settings
      5. System & Updates
      6. Developer Options
      7. Enable USB debugging
    5. Connect the device to the computer
    6. Select “Exchange data” during the connection
    7. Open Terminal (CMD) or Powershell window
    8. Navigate to the folder into which the SDK Platform Tools was previously unpacked (e.g. cd /User/Desktop/Tools)
    9. Enter the following command: adb shell sh sdcard/Android/data/moe.shizuku.privileged.api/start.sh or for Powershell:.\db shell sh sdcard/Android/data/moe.shizuku.privileged.api/ start.sh
    10. Start the Shizuku app on the Android device. This should now have started.
    11. Start Pixel IMS
    12. Allow the app to access Shizuku
    13. Activate VoWifi in the Pixel IMS app
    14. Restart device
    15. The function should now be able to be activated in mobile data.

The procedure worked perfectly on my Honor Magic 6 pro.

Interesting instructions. May be helpful for some people. With the Shizuku app you can do things that normally require root. Yes, the installation and procedure is sometimes complicated, but certain basic knowledge is required for things like this, because you should know exactly what you are doing with many things.

In my opinion, this example simply shows Honor’s inability to properly implement this setting itself. Other manufacturers can do this too and have done so for years.

@Samsi Honor could do it too, my Honor View 20 that I had before the Honor 90 had this setting. All in all, it was a much better device, many functions are simply missing on the new one (e.g. facial recognition in the gallery, the Huawei notes app, the ability to restore my backup from the old device via HiSuite, WiFi calling)

It’s a shame, I used to be a very big fan of Honor, my next cell phone will probably be a Google Pixel

Yes, I can imagine that not everyone is capable of doing that. I rely on WiFi calling because I have terrible network coverage at home. That’s why I didn’t want to send the Honor back immediately.

For me, however, it also detracts from the otherwise very positive impression of the Magic 6 pro. The question is whether I have to run this again after every update.

@Flaulleudio94 In this case it’s something different, I don’t know if it stays after updates but I’d venture to say yes

I actually never had WiFi calling activated because it always caused problems when switching between WiFi and 4G. However, a good customer where I visit from time to time has no network coverage and so I activated WiFi calling to stay reachable, well that doesn’t work anymore, but I can live with it

Without WiFi calling I would have some peace and quiet…

But maybe there would be no wages…

    It works with iOS.

Also the switch from WiFi to 5G.

    Sorry Jüre had to… again; - )

    Yes @NilsL

That’s how I was and what I think too

and this and that which is missing.

If time didn’t play such a role.

As you get older you choose the lesser evil

    to make it “work”

and does with iOS. it this.

@Herby For me it’s really just these few network and WiFi apps, let’s see what these EU regulations will bring about the App Store

When it comes to laptops, I’ve been a happy Mac user for some time now; with a Windows 11 VM, everything works, so to speak

Not just on iOS. Even with Samsung, everything works perfectly and without any problems. That’s the advantage if you use a mainstream device and especially in Switzerland you either have an iPhone or a Samsung smartphone. Everything else is very exotic 😃

@[deleted] I have a personal hatred for Samsung, I’ve had really bad experiences with some devices (Note 7 was great, I had to set up my device again about 3 times because I always had to give it back and then a Note 8 with that the battery was incredibly bad and then Samsung was done for me)

Like so many things… it’s all a matter of opinion and tastes differ too. There are also many who say never again Apple or a “Chinese” will not come to my house. There is no right or wrong. Everyone should take what they like. But a little variety is definitely good, because I think it’s long overdue for Google, among others, to officially sell its Pixel devices in this country and they’re apparently not selling badly at all. It doesn’t always have to be Samsung or an iPhone.
