Does Swisscom restrict access to websites?

  • I’ve been having a strange problem for some time now.

I provide humanitarian support for a pediatric oncology foundation.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to access their website for a few months. Neither with Chrome nor with Edge. It doesn’t matter on the computer, laptop or smartphone.

    The page cannot be reached.

But if I access the site via VPN, it works without any problems.

Now I’m wondering whether there are any restrictions due to the provider, or is the problem with my systems.
    It is this page: https://protiv-raka.org/

    • Workaround ist implementiert. Website scheint nun wieder erreichbar.

Wir lernen diesen Pfad nun anders

Gruss und danke für den hinweis.

Wir werden mit dem Lokalen Provider die möglichkeiten Prüfen.

      Gruss

    Hello @Spartiaten

You misunderstood @NilsL, you can enter a different DNS server in your network settings on the PC or in the router.

DNS server = (phone book directory where something died)

On the router, enter: 192.168.1.1 in the address line.

Then click on Network and then on Settings and further down you can change Swisscom’s DNS server to an alternative one.

Oh, thanks, I understand now. I was in the settings earlier and couldn’t find anything.

Now, strangely enough, expert mode was deactivated.

I have now adjusted the DNS but without positive success. The website is still unavailable.
But also on the smartphone when the WiFi is off.

      Here is the message

Maybe I’ll have to check Bitdefender to see if there’s something blocking it.

I’ve been having exactly the same problem for a few days. But there are different websites that I can no longer open. These are Netflix.com, doodle.com, pcloud.com and many others. All pages are not blocked by Swisscom. Other pages can be opened without any problems. I can’t see what the criteria are for opening one page and disallowing another page.

      What have I already done?

      - Router, including Nokia 5G modem, restarted

      - The firewall on the Internet box was changed from strict to standard

      - tested on PC and two notebooks

      - I whitelisted pcloud.com in the Malewarebytes antivirus program as an attempt.

      - all Windows 11 Pro updates have been made - version 22H2 - the last one on January 10th.

      - tested on Windows 10 and 11

If I operate the notebook with the 4G SIM card or turn off the WiFi on the iPhone and work with 5G, all pages can be accessed without any problems. Has Swisscom updated the Internet box that filters out certain websites? which applies new safety regulations?

Does anyone have an idea what I could do?

      Thanks for an answer.

      Hi @Spartiaten

There actually seems to be a worm in there somewhere, at least the traffic is going nowhere for me too - maybe @ChristianEb can locate it? 😉

      (URL https://protiv-raka.org/ resolves to 91.239.233.24 for me, get to i00iev-005-xxx0-0-0×1.bb.ip -plus.net (138.187.129.29) ).

I don’t think this has anything to do with the router because it doesn’t have any filters built in. There must be something misconfigured in the Swisscom network.

For me, accessing the page works effortlessly from one of my prefixes, but not from the other, @Spartiaten Can you possibly tell me your IP from which you do this via direct message?

      Greetings and thanks

@icewater please address your problem in a separate post/topic, which seems to have no relevance to the case of @Spartiaten, thanks for your understanding!

@Spartiaten I’ll be happy to try to take your case further and will get back to you as soon as I’ve made further progress.

      Probably Monday.
