Commercialization of optical fiber

  • Good morning,

    My building is connected to Swisscom fiber, according to the fiber checker, but a TF decree prohibits Swisscom from marketing fiber (for almost 2 years). On the other hand, residents of new buildings can subscribe to fiber…. I don’t really understand. And I haven’t been able to get a response from Swisscom. And finally I find 2 years, very long… knowing that my building is fiber-enabled…..

    In advance I thank you

    @Didier110 Hello

    Without a response from Swisscom to your request, it will be difficult for our customers to tell you more. Calendar for the deployment of optical fiber
    It is difficult to indicate at the start of construction the precise date the extension will be ready. The extension of the network may, for example, be delayed by technical problems during work or by protests from municipalities or owners. However, as the project progresses, the end date of the work becomes more and more precise.

    Copper is not going away anytime soon. What you need to know is that, as noted in this thread, some connections are blocked by COMCO, which may be your case.

    Good evening Doremi

    My brother was contacted by a Swisscom subcontractor for the fiber installation! He lives in the same town as me and his village is even smaller than mine!!!

    2 months later

    @Doremi Swisscom contacted us by mail to offer us optical fiber to our home since it already arrives in the building. It was specified on the letter that in the event of intérêt one could contact Swusscom by telephone. However, we were not interested so we did nothing. Approx. a month later we received a new letter. Same, we didn’t do anything. We were astonished to receive a reminder as well as a message on the combox. So we called Swisscom again and they told us that copper was going to disappear and that if we didn’t connect to fiber, we risked no longer having internet. We were told that a partner would contact us to install the socket and that everything would be the responsibility of Swusscom. So we have an appointment for this pose. We have the lowest and cheapest internet subscription, and we are going to keep it, because the speed is more than enough for us. We do not understand why we are being pushed to connect to fiber… by telling us that copper will disappear… Which obviously doesn’t seem to be the case???

    We were also confirmed that the owner had been informed, as we are tenants. We hope this is the case…..

    @Stadiobu85

    YES the situation is understandable, however it is difficult to oppose technical developments, such as 5G or optical fiber and this is not only the case in the field of telecommunications 😐

    If optical fiber has been installed in your home, but the connection is still not in service, it is probably due to the provisional measures of the Competition Commission (COMCO) which block and slow down the deployment of fiber . You can check if your connection is affected by entering your address on this link www.swisscom.ch/checker, then clicking on “Details concerning the flow Internet and Blue TV”.

    Hi @Biscotte,

    I understand your situation very well.

    Several years ago, I took Swisscom with an internet booster. But sometimes it worked, sometimes not. And without a booster, I had ridiculous speed, no HD for TV.

    When I received an offer from Upc for 1 GB, I fell for it. And I went to their house. But I had problems with it. And since the Hotline is disastrous (they know nothing about it) and even dishonest (when I refused a fantastic offer from a very rude lady, so that I could stay with them and who even ordered me to cancel the new contract signed at swisscom when fiber finally arrived at my home), I ended up being able to return to swisscom. Since then it’s been nothing but happiness!

    I regularly monitored the development of fiber at swisscom. I also called the municipality. Without success: she told me to take Upc!

    And finally I saw that fiber was going to be installed in my home by swisscom.

    Two years in hell at Upc (but I was still able to get a decent speed!) and finally back at swisscom. I also certainly had problems at the beginning but swisscom did everything to resolve them unlike Upc which always said it was my fault when something went wrong.

    So @Biscotte hold on!

    @Prelude

    Oh thank you! Luckily everything worked out for you.
    thank you also for the comfort.
    my brother who lives in the same town with even fewer inhabitants was contacted for the installation! Every time I ask I am told that nothing is planned at the moment.
    I have fiber all the way to the basement of the building but I’m missing the last few meters. The problem is that no one wants to pay!

    Have a nice day!
