5G Booster Login and other questions

  • Hello everyone

    I just received a Swisscom 5G booster that I was able to buy very cheaply on Ricardo (together with an IB3 and UHD TV box for only 20 Fr.)

    Now I’m trying out what I can do with the part

    Of course my Wingo IB doesn’t do anything when I plug in the booster, it gets an IP and I get to the web UI. The original IB3 used with the booster sees it but shows an error because it has no supply line

    In the booster’s web UI it asks me for a password. How can I find out or reset this password?

    The booster has a Swisscom SIM. What would happen if I put it in my phone? And what would the booster do if I install a different SIM (Wingo)? Could it be used as a 5G modem?

    Can I sell the booster? (So I see that they regularly sell for 100+ Fr. on Ricarod, but can the buyer do something with it? Activate it with his Swisscom Abo? I would feel bad selling something useless)

    • The booster only works with a Swisscom Internet subscription and with a Swisscom Internet box (nothing Wingo) and only if you order it in your Swisscom Kundencenter and it is then activated by Swisscom for your subscription and your router.

      Otherwise you can only use it as a paperweight….

    ….keep on rockin'

    Does anyone know how I can find the login for the web UI of the booster? I read online that it was in the instructions, but I didn’t receive any instructions

    Is there a way to reset the booster and then use a standard login?

    There should be a sticker with a QR code on the cable. This contains all access data. I would remove the Swisscom SIM and then reset the box.

    You’re probably in “uncharted territory” here - I’m excited to see what you find out! 🙂

    @NilsL Hello

    There is absolutely nothing you can do with it, neither for resale, as a Swisscom subscriber must be authorized to purchase the booster. In addition, the mobile connection of this device is only activated by Swisscom. The personal code to access the booster is in the user manual, which you don’t own!

    @Doremi My booster does have a SIM card with the Swisscom logo on it

    Is there no other way to get the password? I don’t want to bother the previous owner any further and beg for pictures of the instructions, especially because I got all the hardware so cheaply (actually far too cheap, just an IB3 goes for 30+ Fr.)

    I checked it briefly: The access data (on my booster) is in three places:

    - “Scan for onboarding” QR code on the original packaging

    - Stickers included with the instructions

    - QR code on the cable.

    Each QR code contains a JSON object with the attributes “U” = username, “P” = password, “PIN” = PIN for BT pairing + a few other things.

    @r00t Thanks for your answer

    I don’t have the package or paper. I can’t find a code on the cable, do you mean the short cable directly on the booster or the long patch cable, because I don’t have the patch cable and there’s no QR code anywhere on the short one

    We’re talking about the 5G booster, i.e. the Nokia FastMile 5G Receiver 5G14-B. Right?

    There is a tab with the QR code on the short, flat cable directly on the booster.

    @Herby

    I’m a happy Wingo customer with a 500 g.fast line and have no use for a booster, and it’s not even available at my address (but 5G rarely has over 100 Mbit/s and I live right next to the mCan)

    The IB3 was the only thing I needed (for a customer) and the rest was just a “bonus”

    Then this is probably the next step:

    [ /comments/uq27lf/nokia_5g14b_5g_receiver_inside_with_secret_port/)

    I have already put the Swisscom SIM from the booster into a cell phone, but no network was received

    I would like to put the SIM in a 4G router where I can change the IMEI and then take it over from the booster, but that is almost certainly forbidden and I don’t have such a 4G router

    Thanks for sharing - he’s even more powerful than the admin that’s on the box! 🙂

    @r00t Interesting, didn’t know how powerful the admin on the box is.

    I definitely see an option to activate SSH and that’s interesting

    I don’t know how much this is in Swisscom’s interest

    Maybe there’s a bug bounty for me 😛

    However, I haven’t had time to try any further, maybe you can get into a root shell via SSH
