Announcements interruption Anschluss

Small question:
You will receive an email from Swisscom at regular intervals regarding the interruption of the Anschluss in order to improve quality. As a rule, these are at night from 00:00 to 06:00 and only for a short time.

Now I already had this short interruption this week 7.3 and now I receive another message about the interruption of the connection on March 20th… this email in the evening from 8:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m.

Is this normal or why is it that the Internet/TF/TV is suddenly interrupted during the “evening program”?

Hello @mikofr

There are various reasons why a Anschluss is interrupted.

1) Relocation of the cable, new bridge, etc.

2) Planned construction sites

3) Adjustment in the control center, possibly installing a damper, etc

4) Possibly installing an MCan, problems may have arisen during installation and will now be resolved in the second step.

5) were at the main time, perhaps the storage location is so located that this is only possible at that time, but only swisscom knows how.

As @hed said we can’t know the reason.

Only Swisscom knows that

Thanks for the answers.

Of course, I am aware that these are problems that we, as customers, cannot solve among ourselves.

My question was simply whether it is normal or whether you have had similar experiences:

a) Announcement of interruption for March 7th 0h00-6h00 for 20 minutes.

a few days later:

b) Announce interruption for March 20th from 8:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m

I’m very happy with Swisscom’s services, but I just want to know why when everything works perfectly so quickly and at “strange” times.

Show original language (German)

@mikofr So I’ve never had an announced interruption between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the almost 5 years that I’ve been at Swisscom, so that’s certainly not normal. I would also find the reasoning exciting.

I also recently had an announcement for an interruption - but it was never interrupted 🤷‍♂️

@mikofr

Even if everything is running perfectly, the network needs to be maintained (preventative replacement of components before the end of their life, software upgrades,…) or expanded for higher capacities, for example. Normally this is done between 00h00 and 06h00.

An interruption at other times can occur, for example, if there are also corporate customers with contractually regulated maintenance windows in the same maintenance area. And these have priority over private customers whose service and availability is only at the “best effort” level.

    Thanks for your feedback. As I said, two interruptions in such short succession (March 7th / March 20th) are a mystery to me and especially the new announced interruption from 8:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. (!!) without any real concrete reason. Let’s see what’s coming.

    Swisscom definitely doesn’t do this “just for fun” and as already written, if you want to know why it happens so often in your area and why at prime time, then you have to contact Swisscom.

    @POGO 1104

    In my opinion, a TV interruption is never tragic, no matter when and for how long. But I know older people in particular who only watch live TV, despite the replay options, because that’s what they’ve been used to for decades.

    @mikofr Work on the expansion works during the day, so there may be an interruption in the morning or afternoon. Maintenance, such as firmware upgrades of network elements or router upgrades, are carried out at night - unless there are business customers who have veto rights and with whom you then have to negotiate a date. These are primarily banks or hospitals that have system processing at night and then do not want any interruptions. Such work is pushed to the sidelines and, in this case, into prime time. Unfortunate, but it happens.

    In your case it may be that March 7th. That’s why on March 20th. was pushed.

    In 2020 we decided to proactively communicate all interruptions that could be >15 minutes. Shorter ones can also be found in the mySwisscom notifications. We want to be as transparent as possible here, even if we may provide too much information. And it’s not regular per customer.

    You are also on a partner network that was not built by Swisscom. It may well be that something else is being done from the side. Especially now that P2P needs to be expanded everywhere. You are already on P2P, but the headquarters now also need to be converted.

    Best regards

    @Roger G

    Thank you very much for the competent feedback.

    As you know, I am extremely satisfied with Swisscom services. Everything just runs perfectly, so I’m almost “afraid” that after interruptions everything will only run half as well (speed, Tf, Tv). I’m happy to pay a little more for everything to run so perfectly (including service), even though the price difference compared to competitors is minimal and is more than offset by Swisscom’s service and information.

    In addition, since I have a little more time in the near future, I can also purchase various special offers (TV sports, etc.).

    It’s also true that my network here is a “partner network” (from ftth-fr). I have only had a fiber optic connection (ftth) since mid-2021 and am in the fortunate position of having this directly to my property.

    I had to wait 20 years (UPC) until I could get back to Swisscom “home” thanks to the fiber optic connection, which was previously missing and only the coax alternative UPC existed.

    Now I hope that after the interruptions everything runs perfectly as before.

    @mikofr

    Your fear is unfounded, because the interruption will not change anything on your devices (Internet box, TV-Box, WLAN-Box, telephone,…) or your account.

    For example, I switch off the TV-Box completely via the power strip after each use and also the router (Internet box) when I am away for a longer period of time. These interruptions have never had a negative impact on the speed, the phone or the TV.

    Thank you at this point for the additional words. 👍

    Using the SC app for this is even more so. But it has its quirks. A few years ago they converted the mobile antennas on the roof opposite my workplace. Of course there was an interruption, but we were notified by the pneumatic crane and not by the app. 😏

    It may not be “your” department, but instead of more advertising, I would like to see a lot more proactive information from the app:

    • Expansions and expansion plans for the perimeter of residence/work/desired location.
    • Planned interruptions as discussed in this thread.
    • Spontaneous disorders.
    • Pending invoices.
    • Mobile and landline.
    • As a real notification and not something that requires me to open the app.
      *…

    I refrain from making sharp comments about the usability and user experience of the app, otherwise I would undermine this thread. I hope you can pass this feedback on internally to the right place.😇

    Thanks again for the valuable information straight from the source. Again, gladly and more and more. Proactive or reactive doesn’t matter in this case…!? 😁

    Äs Greetings

    I just received an announcement of an interruption:

    Tuesday April 11th, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., for 120 minutes.

    Firstly, I find that very long, secondly, very unspecific (“just sometime that day”) and thirdly, absolutely without justification. Until now, interruptions have always occurred at night. Does anyone know a way to find out more details about the reason for the interruption?

    @fewi18

    Such time windows can be smaller or larger, depending on work on the network or construction work.

    Information could perhaps be provided by @Roger G, but it is not always here in the community.

    Take a look at the link below to see if you can use the Internet with your cell phone as a hotspot.

    Have you read the article above by @Roger G? ? So these are mostly infrastructure expansions. Digging, splicing, replacing, upgrading,… just things that, from an economic point of view, cannot be done at night.

    That can be true, but I almost always watch Replay because I have to sit through less advertising - despite my young age of 75 😉

    Hello @fewi18

    If new cables need to be fed, it will take time.

    As a rule, a cable has to be fed at two ends.

    Be it copper or glass.

    And the cables have more than 1 fiber in them per cable.

    The more fiber that needs to be fed, the longer the interruption lasts.

    And if you don’t want to be interrupted, there is still the option of connecting a cell phone or mobile stick to the router.

    Greetings Lorenz
