4 Tipps für bestes WLAN

@Miorietol27 the text refers to home users in their apartments with a Swisscom subscription. The Internet-Box family is the first choice, not the Centro Business, which is primarily intended for Geschäftskunden.

There are also solutions with the Centro Business in the business environment, but they are not based on the Internet Box and the matching WLAN boxes.

@kaetho That’s only partially true. As a home user with a server that requires fixed IP addresses, you have a Centro Business Router… and as far as I know, Swisscom doesn’t offer a simple solution with a really functioning repeater or AP.

@Miorietol27 then you are someone who needs more than a 0815 installation with Internet box and WLAN-Box. So a solution that is a little more specific.

So it’s not far to assume that you also have some in-depth knowledge and could therefore actually set up a “meshing” WLAN yourself with suitable equipment. For example, I do it with Unifi.

I would add that if your router tells you that it is not optimally positioned, this is not always true. Swisscom routers must be equipped with gyroscopic sensors which return a non-optimal position message regardless of the quality of the signal. The important thing is to position it in a central location in the home with as few obstacles as possible between the router and the places where you want to have a good connection. A plant is not an obstacle, doors and walls, particularly thick and/or reinforced concrete, are real obstacles.

Also keep the élan card drivers of your wireless connected devices and the operating systems of your tablets and smartphones up to date.

Today, for example, a few electricity saving tips would be popular:

Cable instead of 2 Swisscom Powerline: Savings per year 29.8 KWh (PS: you could wash around 30 times at 60° with this)

Switch off WiFi on the Swisscom router with a button: savings of 22KWh per year. (Turning WiFi back on takes 2-3 seconds)

Cable instead of 2 Swisscom connection kit for TV: 66KWh per year

In tip 2 you should mention that whenever possible you should use the WB as an access point and not as a repeater.

For tip 3 you should delete the topic of PowerLAN. The forum is full of problems caused by PowerLAN. Such a technology should not, cannot and should not be recommended.

@JMI

thank you for these details on the positioning of the Internet box 😀

the position sensors are activated if the IB is placed on one of the 2 wide sides (flat or horizontal position), but no reaction 📣 if the IB is positioned on one of the four narrow sides (position straight or vertical), tests on this subject were carried out in distribution cabinets, on (or under) a desk (preferably flat surface) the vertical position (on the narrow side and positioned on the support provided for this purpose) still preferable 😉

I myself had good experiences with the WLAN-Box ⅔ as a repeater when there is only a ceiling or two lightweight walls between the Internet box and the WLAN boxes. There is also an installation with a LAN connection, which is the best if you use the WLAN specifically needed in a room.

The WLAN-Box /2 in the basement even goes through a reinforced concrete ceiling.

@Black Mamba

fake!

I fixed my router on its narrow base on a vertical wall, which places the flat sides flat in the void, and lo and behold it constantly tells me that it is poorly positioned, even though my wifi signal is excellent. Hence my deduction that it must just be equipped with gyroscopic sensors to signal poor positioning.

@JMI

>… my router on its narrow base on a vertical wall… signals… poorly positioned…

this is not the case with an IB4 in a cabinet 🤔

which IB model is used?

would gyroscopic sensors be different/IB?
