VPN with IB3 no longer possible under Android 12 via L2PT

  • I updated my Google Pixel 5 to Android 12 this morning. Then I tried adding the VPN to my IB3. It seems like Google has decided to no longer support L2PT… Anyway, I’m now looking for an IPsec identifier

    asked which is not specified in the IB3 GUI or does not appear in any official instructions. Without the identifier I cannot save the connection and therefore cannot establish it.

    Does anyone have an idea? Will there be new protocols on IB3 soon?

    I’m grateful for every hint 🙂

    • I googled it some more.

      It seems as if an existing VPN connection with L2TP/IPSec PSK is still supported when upgrading from Android 11, but this is no longer possible with a completely new Android 12. Will it stay that way with Android 12? No idea.

      Maybe there will be an update for the IBen soon? @JonasB can maybe say something about that?

    Hi @ihazquestion

    So “L2TP/IPSec PSK” is no longer offered in the configuration menu? Is that why you use “IKEv2/IPSec PSK”?

    OK. [google helps](https://www.google.com/search?q=google+android+12+L2TP%2FIPSec+PSK&rlz=1C1GCEU_deCH836CH836& oq=google+android+12+L2TP%2FIPSec+PSK&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i64.17256j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8). It actually seems to have been changed.

    Can’t you switch to Wireguard, for example?

    I bought a new Samsung Tab S8 with Android 12. L2PT/IPSek PSK cannot be selected here either.
    On my Samsung phone S10 after an update from Android 11 to 12, L2PT/IPSek PSK still works but with the message “This VPN is not secure. Upgrade to an IKEv2 VPN”.

    Is there a solution for this or a secure VPN client?

    Thanks @hed, I can live with the error message on my cell phone, but Raspi is not an issue.
    For me, VPN access via the Android tablet would be very desirable.

    What does Swisscom @JonasB think about this and was this discussed in the team (post from November 9th, 20121)?

    If you have a Synology NAS, you can also run a very stable VPN server there

    If there is a solution from Swisscom, it won’t be a short-term one - I think

    @Zeuschieze79 it’s possible that Swisscom isn’t one of the fastest.

    In my opinion, the quick solution is self-help -> Raspi with Wireguard. There are good instructions online. And the cost is manageable.

    @kaetho

    See post #8 > “… Raspi is not an issue…”

    Living with the error message is probably the easiest and quickest solution until Swisscom releases an update.

    @buko_s

    There is no solution at the moment.

    If the solution is there, Swisscom will also communicate, but Swisscom generally does not make predictions about when something will happen.

    Hasn’t been working at all for a few days. There is still no solution in sight for Swisscom.
    If you have to create your own solution, there’s really no reason to pay twice as much for the Internet as you would with Salt.

    You can read here in the forum that with the next firmware release of the Internet boxes (R13.2), IKEv2 will be supported as a protocol. R13.2 should be rolled out in early 2023. But I can’t give you an exact date because I don’t know it.
