VPN on a Centro Business 2.0

Hello everyone,

I’m desperate to configure a VPN on a Centro Business 2.0

I’ve already searched all the forums but I can’t find the help I need to do this.
I tried to do it in an internet2 box (for private use) and it works very well, but I would also like to do it in my company because I have a Centro Business 2.0 router

Has anyone already implemented this?

Thank you in advance and have a good day.

Hi @Ram256,

The link from @Doremi should be able to help you, but if you are looking to do the same thing as with your private connection, not sure that it will work, because the link describes how you could network your home and your office via vpn…

But then, you could go via your “home” VPN to access the office… Afterwards, you would have to know exactly what you would like to do with the VPN.

Hi @Ram256

I suggest you contact Business customer support directly and ask them the question. They will be able to tell you if there is an option to activate for the VPN.

For example, a Centro Business 2.0 that I installed recently did not display the peer-to-peer VPN network option described in the guide you received from Doremi.

Good evening Doremi, DanielD,

Thank you for your comments.
I had already found the help from Swisscom that Doremi mentioned, but I have the impression that it is to put a VPN between two sites each equipped with a CB 2.0 (Centro Business 2.0), whereas I am looking to create a VPN only in my company’s CB2.0 to be able to connect to it in order to have access to the devices connected to the CB2.0 as if I were in my company’s internal networks. Ultimately I would like to access an external hard drive (data storage) which is connected by RJ45 to the CB2.0

There isn’t much help on this subject online.
I will try to contact Swisscom within the week (but I have little hope, as they often refer us to an external IT service). While we should have the necessary support to achieve this with the devices provided by them.
I will keep this post informed of the rest.
good evening and greetings,

Hi @Ram256,

If you want to access your disk, no need for a VPN…

I advise you to do a dyndns (to always have the same access because of the change of IP, unless you have a fixed one) and you do port forwarding on your disk.

It’s very simple to do and no hassle accessing it from anywhere on the internet.

Afterwards, depending on the network HDD model (I have a Western Digital "MyCloud 3T) you can have a dedicated application to access it from the net.

On the other hand, I don’t understand the initial request to create a VPN…

Why didn’t you ask how to access a network hard drive…

@RSA

When teleworking or arriving on a company’s servers, for security reasons this work is carried out via VPN.

Through the VPN I have access to all my company files because I have to identify myself with my personal codes

In this case, you might as well have a small PC running Linux with a VPN connection on it…

But if it’s his business, I would do a site-to-site VPN from his home…

@[deleted] afterwards, if it is for teleworking due to corona virus, this will be a temporary solution port forwarding…

Afterwards, for a REAL corporate IT installation, we order 4 fixed IP addresses to create a DMZ port on the CB2.0 with a firewall on it and the IT behind…

And the swisscom LAN is then reserved for telephony… There are always effective and secure solutions for everything, but this at a certain price…

Hello RSA and Doremi,

Thank you for your much appreciated comments!

Not being a computer scientist by trade, I like computers and I try to expand my knowledge in this area whenever the opportunity arises by searching on the Net or forums (like this one) .

That being said, here is what I am trying to do (effectively this following the containment measures and being able to telework):

In my small business, I have a Swisscom Centro Business 2.0 router to have access to the Internet (it is the only router) with 4 RJ45 ports, of which I have an External hard drive (WD My Cloud 4 TB) where I have working files and programs.

This disk is connected as a network drive E:\xxx to my workstation on site and it has a (fixed) IP address reserved in the Swisscom Router 192.168.1.56

What I’m looking for is to have the possibility at home (private, outside the company) to be able to connect this same disk as a network drive with the same letter E:\xxxx (a specific folder) because I have programs that point to this and I would not like to have to configure the paths for the various applications running on this disk each time. This is the reason why I found that creating a VPN was the right solution, but now I’m not so sure…

Could the solution mentioned by RSA of creating a Dyndns and port forwarding work?

If so, I need your help RSA.

Thank you very much in advance and looking forward to hearing from you, I wish you a very nice day.

Greetings,

Hi @Ram256, with a WD my cloud, you don’t need port forwarding and dyndns…

You can go to the WD website and create an account. And on your network drive, you can create users…

You have the WD access software that you can install on your PC and link the software to your PC via the cloud.

In addition, you also have an IOS and Android application that also allows you to do this.

This is the safest thing to do for access from the outside, and it could be a lasting solution as well.

On the other hand, you must do all the configurations locally before using all the apps and software via the internet.

Hello again RSA,

Thank you for your suggestion.

I’m going to test this and I’ll come back to the forum to share my experiences.

Good afternoon and greetings.

@Ram256, no worries.

You will see, by connecting via the IP address of your disk, you create a user, and with the PC software and/or app, you search for the disk on the LAN network.

Then, you authenticate with the username and password you created, and then it works…

Hello RSA,

I have tried several times to find the WD Access software on the supplier’s website, but I think it is no longer available!?!
I already created an account with WD on mycloud.com but now I’m stuck, I don’t know how to link my network drive which is in my company and then be able to connect a network drive in my private PC at home and access it in the files?

Do you know where we can get the WD Access software?

Or another solution?

Thank you and have a good day.

Greetings

Hi @Ram256,

If you can’t find it on the site, it’s because it’s direct on your disk with the basic software.

Afterwards, I just saw that WD Access is mainly used on the LAN. Sorry, I did this a while ago :s

And WDsync is the software to “access” your disk from the outside. You configure the synchronization of the desired file/folder on your PC, and everything you modify on one side or the other is updated.

The famous software^^

Sorry again for the incorrect information, Romain

Another way to access your @Ram256 file is to install the WD “My Cloud” app on your smartphone and to create a link to access it like I did in this post :

Hi @RSA,

Thank you for your response!

ok I will look at the other WDsny software and also the other solution that you propose, but the link on the post does not work! Can you send me the link to the position you mentioned?

Thank you and have a good weekend
