Outlook application on Android (unable to connect) [solved]

  • Hello everyone,

I would like to post a question on the forum regarding the problems I encounter logging into my bluewin account using the Outlook application on my phone with Android OS.

    To remain synthetic:

    1. my bluewin account is included in a swisscom customer account and is not the main account.

    2. The password for the swisscom customer account and the password for my bluewin account are different, and they do not contain any special characters (only letters and numbers).

    3. I also use Outlook 16 on my computer and it works perfectly (sending and receiving).

    4. I only use IMAP (and not POP).

    5. for a year I was able to receive Emails on Android using the Outlook application. However, I have never been able to send emails from this same application.

    6. I also used a professional account with Microsoft Exchange at the same time which worked for both reception and sending.

    7. Two months ago, I tried to change the application settings to successfully send Emails. It was a failure and I was never able to reconnect to either IMAP or SMPT. Since then, unable to use Outlook app for Android.

    8. I’m still updating the Outlook for Android app.

    9. I tried to use the “delete account on all mobile devices” function -> it didn’t change anything.

    10. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the Outlook app for Android several times -> that doesn’t work either.

    11. I contacted Microsoft service for Outlook. Several tricks were tried but nothing worked. I was told that the problem was not with Oulook but with bluewin.

    12. To log into my account on the Outlook app for Android, I use the following advanced settings:

    Email address

    myaccount@bluewin.ch

    Display Name (example: Mike Rosoft)

    My first and last name

    Description (example: Word)

    My initials

    IMAP Incoming Email Server

    IMAP Host name (e.g. imap.domain.com)

    imaps.bluewin.ch:993 (I also tried without adding port:993)

    IMAP User Name (example: mike.rosoft)

    myaccount@bluewin.ch

    IMAP Password

the password for my bluewin account (not that of the Swisscom customer account)

    SMTP Outgoing Email Server

    SMTP Host name (e.g. smtp.domain.com)

    smtpauths.bluewin.ch:465 (I also tried without adding port:465)

    SMTP User Name (example: mike.rosoft)

    myaccount@bluewin.ch

    SMTP Password

the password for my bluewin account (not that of the Swisscom customer account)

    13. When I use these settings, Outlook for Android tells me that there is an error in the log-in and that I need to check my email address and password and try again.

    14. When I try to log in without using the advanced settings (only with email address, bluewin account password, display name and account description), the error message is basically the same. But! On some rare occasions Outlook specifies that the SMTP connection is not available (“Your email service provider does not have an option to connect via a secure connection for SMTP. You can log in using a non-secure connection.” -secure").

    15. even if I agree to connect using a non-secure connection, it fails (email/password log-in error).

This is the presentation of my problem. I checked the Swisscom community help forum but that didn’t help me resolve it.

Any help in resolving my situation will be welcomed and I thank you in advance 🙂

    • Hello @Grigs

Have you tried using “myaccount” instead of “myaccount@bluewin.ch” for the IMAP user name and for the SMTP username?

    Hello Doremi,

    Thank you for your response!

As I understand it, the bluewin assistant download can only be installed on a computer and therefore not on Android.

As for the manual configuration, it corresponds perfectly to that which I described in my first message (I had already consulted this page elsewhere).

So at this point, it does not solve the problem connecting to my bluewin account from Outlook on Android.

    Good to you,

    Hello DanielD,

I tried this some time ago without success. On the forum, it is always specified that you must use the full email address.

Well no! This time it worked, including sending emails. I’m very happy with it. Many thanks!

    Hello everyone,

I’m at the same point as the initiator of the post… but with the iOS version of Outlook. And for me, replacing “moncompte@bluewin.ch” with “moncompte” in the IMAP and SMTP user names was of no use…

By letting the application automatically configure the account, I receive the emails, but cannot send them (“we could not send the message” message), so the password is correct. As soon as I try to go through the advanced settings, it crashes.

Has anyone had the same problem for 2-3 weeks?

    THANKS!
