Difference Swisscom Internet Security and F-Secure SAFE

  • Good day

What is the difference between Swisscom Internet Security (from F-Secure) and the freely available product F-Secure SAFE? Does the Swisscom product have special features or what are the arguments for subscribing to the Swisscom solution?

Thank you very much for the information.

    Best regards

    Roland

“Either or” is, so to speak, the wrong question here, because the answer is: Neither!

As has already been said, getting third-party snake oil on your computer usually causes more problems than benefits.

Windows 10 offers built-in virus protection that is on par with third-party solutions and is less likely to cause disruption and destruction on/in the computer.

From many years of professional experience, I can assure you that in the “wild” you will encounter significantly more damage caused by virus scanners than damage caused by viruses. So stay away from the rip-off stuff.

With a current Windows 10, you no longer need either, because the protection integrated into the operating system (Defender) is at least as good as “external” solutions. For 2 years (from Win10 V.1709) the Defender has consistently occupied top positions in independent tests

The Defender is very well integrated into the operating system (= maximum compatibility) and requires few resources.

I run 8 PCs in my family, all of them Windows 10 Prof. Not a single one of them has an external solution, they all run Defender. No one has complained about four infestations. The devices can be used in a variety of ways (games, movies, office, etc.) No problems. So why spend money when an existing program does its job without any complaints!

Exactly, and in the meantime there are already companies that no longer install additional virus scanners on their employees’ PCs and laptops.

But even more important than virus protection is the user who uses the Internet carefully and responsibly.

    10 months later

I disagree with the previous comments: I had Windows Defender and had several major problems with adware. A scan with AdwareClean/Malwarebytes revealed up to 39 problems. After this was solved, there were no more problems with my PC.

    @Meizehau46

I have my own antivirus program on all Windows 10 PCs and have had no problems so far. I also use Firefox, which also serves as a filter.

If you have “adware” on your PC, then you installed it with dubious programs, or you opened an email with an attachment.

Such programs also detect trackers, which you can get by the dozen while surfing the Internet.

Without comprehensive tracker protection, they are quickly installed again.

PiHole, pfblockerng etc are good methods.

Alternatives are installations with ad blockers in the browser itself, which would then have to be installed directly on each device. Another disadvantage is that telemetry from the browser itself is not prevented.
