Use 2 ISP fiber lines Swisscom TV

  • Dear Swisscom community

    I would like to present my current situation/problem here in the forum and am dependent on your help.

    The following scenario:

    x 1 OTTO Fiber can

    x Multiroom box cabling (patch panel) 3 rooms

    x 1 ISP Swisscom fiber line with Internet Box 2

    x 1 ISP Init 7 fiber line with Netgear xr500 router

    x 1 Switch Netgear Pro Safe unmanned

    Network connection

    1x Otto Fiber can

    - plug 1 Init 7 ISP Netgear xr 500 router WAN port

    - plug 2 Swisscom ISP Internet box 2 WAN port

    1. Both routers are connected to the Netgear Pro Safe Switch via their LAN port 1

    3. From the Netgear Pro safe switch, the remaining 3 rooms are now connected via the patch panel

    Swisscom TV is now connected in rooms 1 and 2 and is therefore connected to the switch

    4. I need a network configuration with which I can operate the Swisscom ISP network separately from the Init 7 network.

    The Swisscom network via Internet box 2 should only be used for the Swisscom TV boxes in rooms 1 and 2

    5. What network configuration options are there? Without the two networks biting each other and both DHCP servers taking care of IP distribution?

    I hope someone from this forum can give me an elegant solution to my problem.

    That’s why VLAN was invented. From prosafe plus this is possible with Netgear switches. The TP Link switches from the Swisscom shop can also do this.

    Basically you are in a dual WAN situation.

    But if by the Switch Netgear Pro Safe unmanaged you mean these nice little things for 40-60 CHF, then somehow it doesn’t really fit together.

    Has this switch ever been successfully put into operation in dual WAN operation, regardless of Swisscom TV?

    Okey, all clear, so that means I would have to replace 3 switches with the pro safe Plus series since I also have the same Netgear switch in rooms 1 and 2?

    What would the VLAN configuration look like in my situation? so that I can get the solution I want?

      Yes, but not successfully because the Internet box 2 unfortunately does not support static LAN IPV4 routing correctly and the TV boxes therefore obtain an IP from the DHCP server of the Netgear router.

      I had something similar running successfully for a while.

      For me it was Swisscom copper in combination with UPC cable and purely with routers, i.e.:

      - own dual-WAN-capable broadband router with multicast capability (important for live Swisscom TV programs) and with its own home network (i.e. DHCP server with its own IP range) and load distribution options between the 2 WAN connections

      - Swisscom router as a pure access router

      - UPC router as a pure access router

      I’d rather leave the possible solutions with special VLANs and switches to the crack, which has already reported itself

      The configuration works so far and SC TV runs from both rooms

      - Now I have another problem and I can’t access the other 2 switches on the web console and I can’t reach my printer, which is in room 2. Everything is connected via vlan id 20. How do I have to configure the switches exactly? can my clients and printers in vlan nez 20 communicate with each other without any problems?

      The DHCP server is switched off on all 3 switches, only the DHCP server of the Netgear router is active

      I was now able to answer my own question that VLAN ID 1 is needed for the two ISP routers so that you can then communicate with the Swisscom TV and the SC network on all switches.
