Connect router to modem via detours

Hello, I have a question regarding a router. I have the Swisscom standard Internet box and would like to get a NETGEAR R7000 AC1900 Nighthawk. Because my modem is currently in a closet because the fiber optic connection is in the fuse box. (I realize this is crap!)

My question about this:

The modem and the router have to be connected to the Internet port. Is this also possible via a detour?

There are 4 Ethernet ports in my fuse box, each of which has 2 ports on one socket in the apartment. If I now go from the modem to the Internet port and then from there to my Anschluss in the fuse box which then goes to the socket in the living room, can I then pull a cable from the socket to the router? Or are there problems because it is not connected directly but via a “detour”? Thanks in advance!

Normally this “detour” goes without any problems. Only if special “home multimedia cabling systems” were used can there be problems.

EDIT: I just noticed that you have a special installation like this:

Another tip:

Configure the Netgear thing in “Access Point” mode and not in “Router” mode.

The Swisscom thing is already a router and you usually don’t need 2 routers in the home network - unless you know EXACTLY what the consequences are if you use 2 routers….

Before you buy something like that, it’s better to invest the money in an electrician who can free your router from the metal box. It’s not difficult and much more sustainable.

I’m looking forward to the offer from the electrician…

I know of a similar case - for a 15m fiber optic extension from the central distribution cabinet into a room and from there a LAN feed back into the MM distributor, CHF 600 was estimated - not exactly a bargain….
