No access to DLink IP camera via Swisscom mobile network

Hello everyone

I have a DLink IP Cam DCS-5222L, which I can access via WLAN using the DLink app on my mobile phone, but not via the regular mobile network. (For your information: the DLink can be accessed without router configuration, i.e. via the DLink cloud). My older cam, for which I had to set up a DDNS server and port redirection, can be accessed via both WLAN and the mobile network. Why is that so?

Fixed IP: no, gateway: no; As I understand it, everything runs via the DLink cloud, so no config necessary (not like the “old” camera). An addendum: I can’t access the DLink website on my mobile device via browser, it comes up automatically. the site with reference to the mobile apps.

What’s possible: Access via mobile via WLAN, via browser via a PC (with Java). By the way, I’m by no means the only person with this app problem, and access via the mobile network works with the iPhone (!), but not with my Android…

I’ve already inquired about DLink (like others), but nothing productive comes up. Hence the request here. But thanks for the quick answer and apologies if the topic is off topic.

I have the same problem and initially suspected that Swisscom was blocking video traffic. But now I tested the following:

S4 with Swisscom SIM:

- App only works via WiFi

iPhone with Sunrise SIM:

- App works with mobile network

Now with thetering activated, it works in all combinations: for example, if I activate the personal hotspot on the S4, the app works on a connected iPhone or Android tablet.

So, I thought, it’s probably more to do with Android or the Android app than with the provider.

Nevertheless, I removed the Sunrise SIM from the iPhone and placed it in the S4 with the adapter frame. When I start the app, the warning appears again: “To establish a connection to your local cameras, you should turn on the Wi-Fi settings (WLAN) of your mobile phone.”

BUT: It still works - so it’s up to Swisscom. I always get the error message: “Connection timeout exceeded. Would you like to reconnect?”

I seem to remember that it used to work for me via mobile network!

What next?

Very interesting comments, thank you very much, although we still don’t have a solution.

However: With the iPhone (Swisscom) the camera can be controlled via mobile communications! So it would be a problem with the Android app.

I still have to try out the tethering thing; It would actually be important to me to be able to access the camera externally even if I don’t have WiFi, i.e. via the mobile network.

Maybe a Swisscom technician will comment on this.

Hello everyone,

I know this chat is a few months old. But I have now also bought a Dlink camera like this, exactly the same.

I paired the cam with the WiFi and then downloaded the app to my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. If I’m on the same wifi with the cell phone, everything works great. But when I try over cellular, even with 4G it doesn’t work. It always says time limit exceeded.

I also have my subscription with Swisscom.

Have you now found a way to solve this problem?

thank you 🙂

Hello pescador21

Unfortunately no, there’s no solution unless you find WiFi, which is available in many places now, but it’s still annoying. As I said, on the iBlöd with the same app it works over the mobile network.

Hello zame

Certain Android versions have proxy settings entered for the mobile data connection.

Please try the following - nota bene with WiFi deactivated:

Under Settings (Network/Other Settings) there is the menu item “Access Points” (or APN) under “Mobile Networks”.

creates a new access point for data there with the following entries:

APN: gprs.swisscom.ch

Proxy: leave blank

Port: leave empty

Enter default,supl under APN type

then activate this APN and try.

That helped too.

Good luck!

I assume mobile data via the mobile network is activated because according to you it works externally via WLAN?

You can easily check whether the Internet works via the mobile network.

It’s actually an older topic…

I have 3 DLink cams and via WiFi / WLAN it works with the iPhone without any problems. The timeout always occurs via the Swisscommobil network. But you try it and sometimes it suddenly works.

Interestingly, accessing the webcams works without any problems when I access the cams while roaming abroad.

It’s pretty clear to me that it has to be on the Swisscom network. There’s probably not much you can do there. All that remains is to wait and hope that Swisscom investigates the matter and solves the bug.
