Choosing the right TV (LED, LCD, plasma, size, etc.) for swisscom TV

I want to buy a new television, I wonder if a 55′' is not too big for channels that are not HD. Won’t the result be too ugly?
The setback is approximately 3.5m.

Has anyone had negative experiences with TVs that are too big?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Personally I think that the choice of a television is very personal. At first, I inquired about which one was the best, etc. But one day a random salesman told me that I just had to take a look around the store and see which image I liked the most.

Some people like images full of color. Others want very high contrast. Others prefer a duller image. Frankly, you have to go there and watch the films playing on all the TVs. Then choose the one you prefer. It’s the same for the size of the television. Get closer and move away to see for yourself if it’s too big or too small.

I have a 42′‘ with about 2.5m distance and it suits me very well. The quality, even for SD channels, is quite good. Still better than a cathode ray tube. A 55’' is really big, but if you like it, that’s up to you.

Regarding brands it’s the same. Some will tell you that you absolutely have to choose Philips because they make their own panels. Others will tell you that Samsungs are the best. It all doesn’t matter. Take the one where the image suits you best. The only thing I would do is get an LED TV, not plasma or anything else.

There you go.

Hello Luna,

We have a tel. HD format 106 cm. The larger the diagonal, the more the sharpness decreases. On new televisions, it is possible to increase the sharpness electronically. Personally I appreciate a large image, even at 3.5 m. like at home. With TNT, the image is very good and excellent with HD, but only available for a few channels. The best thing is to go to the department stores and see which one suits you best.
