No signal XGS-PON

  • Hoi together,

As far as I understand it, I have no signal. Or am I doing something fundamentally wrong? Is the media converter possibly defective? The socket is new. FibreTwist XGS2110 on the MikroTik.

Ps: Yes, the cable clutter will be tidied up as soon as it works and DSL is removed.

    Thank you

Edit: I use port 2 and the FiberTwist XGS2110 is of course certified. https://shop.monzoon.net/FiberTwist-XGS2110/NW00027

Media converter XGS-PON to RJ45 does not work.

The router must already be Swisscom certified. If it has to be a third-party product.

      https://www.swisscom.ch/content/dam/swisscom/en/ws/documents/E_BBCS-Documents/e_bbcs_supporting-documentprovedequipment.pdf

If you now interfere with the fibre optic cable with your media converter, you can be deactivated……..

Which may trigger a technician call-out.

Thanks for the reply, never stop learning……

Does the connection work with a Swisscom box and do you have a link there?

If so, you almost certainly have a problem in the config….

On the router you should see the PON values, what level you have, so you know if it gets a fibre signal.

Then you have to register this router via Swisscom https://swisscom.ch/start

Only when you have activated your router there will you receive an IP address which will then let you into the network.

Attention: Only routers and modules certified by Swisscom may be connected to the new 10 Gbit/s technology (XGS-PON). ***At the moment, only the Internet-Box 3 with the supplied module is suitable for this.

But may already be out of date ?

I mentioned that you never stop learning

Means that the media converter is on the list.

          And again to point.

Is the connection running with a Swisscom router: Yes / No -> If Yes, then you can continue with the media converter.

The settings that are required for third-party routers are then important for this router to receive an IP address from Swisscom.

If it has an IP address, then you must activate this router on the Swisscom website. This means that Swisscom knows that this router belongs to your customer account and can allocate your services to it.

          If you go to https://swisscom.ch/start

This is the activation page, where you must enter Oto-ID Plug and possibly your Swisscom serial number.

If the Swisscom connection does not work with a Swisscom router, there is a fault in the supply line and this must first be rectified.

          Greetings Lorenz

This is exactly the way to test the line/connection

            ….keep on rockin' 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

              Hello POGO 1104

              @user109 I know this device ;-)

Yup, this measuring device is always in my pocket and I need it for every fibre optic circuit in the central office, because I check every fibre before it is plugged in to see if it has a signal.

We also measure the attenuation at the customer’s premises, how long the line is and how well the splices are travelling. All this is documented.

A measurement is also always taken and documented when we pull in a new cable.

I don’t know whether the partners and the electrical companies do the same…..

If the attenuation is too high in the OTO socket or in the BEP and it is owned by Swisscom, we are allowed to repair it.

If the attenuation persists up to the BEP, we look at why, usually this happens when another electrician or someone else does something in the empty conduits…. cables and doesn’t pay attention, because if there is fibre optic in the pipes, you can’t pull around with all your might.

And now we’re still waiting to see whether or not it works for the customer with a Swisscom router.

If not, then he has to open a ticket and then it will be looked at on site.

It’s best if the customer leaves the Swisscom router connected to the network until the technician has arrived and only changes the router when the Swisscom router is working.

Because the hotline does not provide support for third-party devices, it is best to leave the Swisscom router on…….

And what we see at the customer’s…….

I don’t know what customers do with their Oto sockets / plugs, but they shouldn’t look like this…….

So it’s clear that no signal reaches the customer if you can’t even see the core.

And this is how the fibres should be.

And if not, they are cleaned with the right tools…

              Greetings Lorenz

Lori-77 I had that too, when I arrived everything was unplugged and the place wasn’t the cleanest either (dust bunnies everywhere).
                Customer statement: “doesn’t work”.

Level measured from the router connection cable around -48dB 🙈 , everything cleaned, level measured OK, working.

Sometimes I don’t know what you do with it, I don’t throw my glasses in the dirt so that I can see better…
