Old Apple devices on iOS 9.3.6 "unable to join the network"

  • My older Apple devices running iOS 9.3.6 can’t connect to my home Wi-Fi.

A “unable to join the network” message is the answer. This problem started about six months ago.

Probably it could be related to the security setup if WPA3-Personal + WPA2-PSK[AES] is enabled?

Is it possible, and if yes how, to setup a visitor Wi-Fi for WPA2-PSK[AES]?

    Thanks

Swisscom recommends that you always protect the WLAN with a password. WPA3 encryption offers the best possible security but only supports a few devices. WPA2/WPA3 is therefore recommended for standard use. Please note that all WLAN devices must be reconnected when you change the type of encryption. The WEP and WPA encryption types are not supported by Internet-Box because they are not considered secure.

    Hello LV55,

Yes, to make your Apple devices running iOS 9.3.6 work, you need to go to the settings of your internet box, to the web page 192.168.1.1. Activate the Expert mode, go to the WLAN section, and change the encryption from WPA2/WPA3 to WPA2 only. You will then be able to connect your old devices, whether they are Apple or others, again.

    Best regards, Doremi

    Thanks for your answer.
I will try it, but only on the guest WLAN.

    Thanks a lot.

    I confirm that it works.

    Kind regards
