Hi Guys!
Hope you are all doing well.
I’m thinking of get a fiber internet service from Monzoon, who provide internet services based on Swisscom infrastructure. Unfortunately, they don’t provide free fiber converter and routers like Swisscom, and the price of buying these devices from them is unaffordable to me (or I might have just directly go for a Swisscom internet subscription).
While browsing on internet, I found that plenty of Swisscom Internet Box 2 are being listed on Ricardo and I can barely get one for free. Whatsmore, it has a fiber socket, so it seems that I can use it as both fiber converter and router. However, this is just my intuition, and I didn’t find exact information regarding this problem on Internet Box 2’s instruction documents (ref).
So here comes my questions:
1) Internet Box 2 should be a device designed only for Swisscom subscriptions, but is it possible to configure it for another ISP? I found some discussion on German version of Swisscom community but they are for DSL instead of fiber connection (ref). If the answer is yes, then:
2) Monzoon put a term “1000BASE-BX” on their page, and it seems to be a protocol for fiber connection (ref). Is my tuition stated before true? Can I simply connect this all-in-one device to the fiber socket installed on the wall, and make some necessary configuration, to connect to the internet? Does Internet Box 2 support this protocol?
I would be really grateful if any information or advice could be provided.
Best regards,
Zisen
