If you now have Android 12 on the TV Box, you must be logged in with a Google account. If you have gone through all the steps after the update and have logged in with a Google account, you can download and install the VLC app under the menu item Apps -> Google Play.

I’m mentoring a not-so-tech-savvy person. She uses the Swisscombox with the fabric cover.Swisscom-TV-Box-Packshot-20191018-2400-3399.jpg

Now the hotline 0800 800 800 told me a few weeks ago that there would be no update for this box.

Now the person I look after still receives an email informing them that an update is coming.

Is this true?

- Do you also have to set up a Google account when accepting the terms and conditions of the contract with Google? Or is this not necessary with this box?

- If so, could I provide my own Google Account login when installing on someone else’s box or would this cause problems?

The IP2000 also gets the AoT upgrade, so the information from the hotline was incorrect.

With regard to Google, the terms and conditions only have to be accepted once; linking to a Google account (regardless of the account owner) is optional and is only necessary for the Play Store if additional apps are to be installed on the TV-Box.

Thanks for the information @Werner

In this case, is the update for the IP2000 easier? No remote control that you still have to confirm? Or are there any other pitfalls that I need to be aware of when updating?

The update for the IP2000 is exactly the same as for the Box21

Starting takes 4x longer than before because of the dirt!

Google is a data octopus and only wants data!

Good morning @Cheingoldeu15

I can understand that this annoys you if it takes so long to start up.
Please adhere to the [rules of the game in the Swisscom Community.](https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/So-l%C3%A4uft-s-hier/Spielregelen-in-der-Swisscom-Community/m-p/ 566832#U566832)

After an update, resetting the TV box can often help if it takes so long to start. If this does not improve, please contact us directly at www.swisscom.ch/kontakt, so that we can check this.

I wish you a good start into the new week.

Best regards
JanineZ.

Tip no. 1: Before posting on the Internet: take a chill pill... Think about what will resonate with the recipient…

Tip no. 2: Before, the box didn’t run with “Air and Love OS” as the operating system 😏

It is just an Update to the new Android 12” operating system

And because it becomes more and more difficult as soon as you offer more functions, Google wants to have accepted the terms of use this time. Because the App Store, Google search, etc. are now integrated into Android 12.

I don’t assume that you have informed yourself here… Please catch up, it’s incredibly reassuring 😎

Greetings

Stephen

In my experience, if you disconnect the box from the power rail using a toggle switch to save energy when it is not in use, you will have to wait much longer than before during a cold start; that is normal.

As a remedy, simply start the box a little earlier or distract yourself with other things while starting it up. 😉

On the subject of saving, a thought. Assuming the box runs an average of 5 hours a day. Then this results in:

Consumption year *Price **
Standby14.584.69
Energy saving mode2.090.67
Power supply only0.430.14
Powerless0.000.00

* Consumption in kilowatt hours

** With an average price of 32.14 cents/kWh

The individual customer saves just under CHF 4.70 per year.

Assuming a million boxes were consistently in energy saving mode when not in use, then that would be almost 12.5 gigawatts of electricity savings per year.

To be honest, it is convenient to press the power button on the FB and the box is there immediately. And yes, it doesn’t even cost me a coffee a year.
But the numbers are somehow impressive. I only noticed this now.

In my opinion, it also shows that you should put more thought into switching off electrical consumers when not in use or even disconnecting them from the power.

There are some devices that don’t always reward the constant unplugging and plugging!

These can create voltage peaks which are not always well suppressed.

You can see this clearly when sparks are generated when unplugging and plugging in.

I only unplug the devices when I’m out of the house for several days.

Keeping the box’s power supply warm on standby is also not healthy in the long term, as it will probably age more quickly.
