Handset for landline

  • Hello everyone,

My internet box is in the basement and is also a DECT base station. Which handset can you recommend in terms of range and reception quality? What do I have to pay attention to? Are there even handsets that can use WLAN and the DECT range no longer plays a role?

    I’m grateful for tips!

The DECT range is in any case greater than the WLAN range, but in the end you will only find out by trying it out whether it reaches into the basement.

As a handheld device, I would definitely buy a device from Gigaset.

The standard recommendation in terms of price/performance ratio would actually be a CL660HX, but if you want to spend a little more, there are also slightly more luxurious models.

I would recommend a Gigaset because:

      - are currently the most tried and tested handhelds

      - If the DECT range is not enough, you can, in a second step, purchase an additional Gigaset DECT base station, which you can then connect to the router in the basement using a LAN cable

    Thanks @Werner,

The reason for WiFi was that I have it throughout the house in fairly good quality, but I don’t know whether WiFi phones/handsets work with SIP Config.

I’ll try Gigaset and possibly position a base station on the ground floor.

Good decision, you are definitely on the right track.

Landline telephony via WLAN-connected handhelds, which are then connected directly to a SIP server using SIP credentials, is technically possible, but also very exotic.

Such devices are quite rare and really expensive and do not offer much ease of use - a path that you would only want to take in absolutely exceptional cases 🙂
