Swisscom TV Box 5

  • Good morning,

I set up the new box with the new cables. I very regularly have the black screen for 2 seconds then the broadcast comes back. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a recording, a replay or a live broadcast.

I turned off the router, reset the box but nothing changed.

I finally reinstalled the Swisscom TV box and I have no problems.

    FYI, I have a 10 Gbit/sec fiber internet connection.

Do you have a tip, a solution to offer me?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hello Veinteschi84

“In the end, does it work or not?

Just one thing to know, you have to leave the box on standby at night instead of unplugging it, if this is your case, because updates are carried out at night.

    @Veinteschi84 Hello

“If your new TV5 box still does not work, I found the following comment on the overseas forum from @RomanE regarding Sony TVs:

We are experiencing the issue you describe with some very old Philips TVs built in 2010 and older. We have such a device in our laboratory but unfortunately we have not been able to solve the problem to date.

Unfortunately, I can’t give you a date as to if and when we will be able to resolve it.

There are currently only 2 options: reconnect the old box or buy a new TV (something happened in the last 13 years 🙂
    greetings RomanE

Having a 2023 Samsung TV and experiencing the same issues, I don’t think the problem is the TV. I personally invested in premium HDMI cables and still have the same symptoms. I also applied the full reset, it lasted 2-3 weeks and bingo it’s back..

I seriously think that this box is riddled with “small” bugs and we are impatiently awaiting the fixes.

    Good evening.

@zorglub1 Yes, I agree with you, there are still some issues with the new case, but they are fixing them. I don’t have any major problems, but depending on the television and other settings, everything is still not as it should be.

But the more detailed the information (in your case, for example which Samsung TV exactly), especially the errors that arise, the more it helps the developers to continue the development of the box.

I completely agree that new equipment can experience some teething problems; but in this case we deploy patches frequently enough to limit the impact. My television is a Samsung QE75QN95BATXXN and the major problems encountered are:

    • More or less frequent sound losses for several seconds in uncompressed Dolby Surround mode (Dolby MAT). These sound losses also occur when switching channels. It happens that the sound never comes back, so you either have to switch to “stereo” sound mode or restart the box.
    • No more images on live channels when exiting an application such as Plex. It is necessary to restart the box to recover normal operation.

I would recommend that Swisscom open some sort of public “bug tracker” so that we can follow the progress of dealing with various bugs.

    Good morning,

I’m having the same problem as you and apparently they still haven’t fixed it, I have an old Philips TV.

I just reinstalled the old Swisscom TV box which works very well.

    Good morning,

For my part, I no longer have the problems mentioned as frequently since the April update and the replacement of my HDMI cables with Premium ones (48 Gb/s). I think that the new box is still in the stabilization phase regarding the management of the HDMI protocol, this must not be simple given the variety of equipment and possibly the “custom” versions of the implementation of this protocol; but we have the right to expect better responsiveness from our (very) dear Swisscom.

The Apple TV does not have this type of problem and adapts the quality of its video output according to the connected devices and the connections (cables). I was able to see this when switching from Ultra High Speed cables to Premium, the Apple TV detected the change and automatically adapted the video output to 4.4.4 instead of the 4.2.2 previously.

    Good day.
