Questions about mobile phone number theft

Recently I have received at least three incoming calls who claimed that they were calling back to me on the basis of my number previously calling them. However, I did not call any one of these numbers, and my contact history on my phone testifies to this: none of these numbers appeared before in my telephoning history. It is getting very annoying and these calls are making me feel uncomfortable.

In such circumstances, is it possible that my number has been stolen by someone else and misused? If so, what should I do?

Yes that is possible. We have seen several cases of spoofing during the last week - unfortunately, there is not much you can do about this.

Unfortunately, you have less control in the opposite case: if your number is hijacked for spoofing calls, there’s nothing you can do. In most cases, however, the issue resolves itself after a few weeks.

@Hallie Principally you could change your number, but the experience shows that this spoofing stops within a couple of weeks. It is important to that you are not charged if somebody uses your number in this way. It happened also to me a couple of weeks ago, but stopped two weeks after.
