Wireless Devices showing as Wired

  • Hello Everyone!

I recently installed an access point in my house upstairs to get some better reception in my house. Unfortunately for some reason, any device that is wirelessly connected to the access point shows up as wired for some reason?

I believe this is because the access point is wired to a switch but this shouldn’t change why the devices are showing as wired.

Does anyone know a fix for this?

    Thank you!

Asyou can see in the picture, “EAP635-MatRoom” is my access point, which is wired to my switch. The “Bedroom Sonos”, “Govee ½” and “iPhone-2” are all wirelessly connected to my access point, but it shows up as wired.

    • Hi @Neflauldie21

This is because the Internetbox cannot know whether a device attached to another device is wireless or not. It just can see network traffic coming from the devices through one of its ethernet-ports, so it assumes that they are wired.

As this is expected behaviour, there is no fix for this. 😉

If you had the Swisscom WLAN-Box, it would be able to tell you if the device is wired or wireless. That unfortunately doesn’t work with third party access points/repeaters.
