swisscom.ch + Firefox = f.txt

Today it is particularly bad. For a long time now, whenever I select something on the Swisscom HP, a large text file appears and at the same time an “f.txt” file is saved on the desktop.

Only with FF and only swisscom.ch. Everything else problem-free.

Windows 10 and FF up to date.

@Jürgen N

You don’t have to upload the file itself, I know it and it is known that depending on the website you visit, it is downloaded to the PC, but usually not to the desktop but to the download folder. The topic has been discussed online for a long time, for example here:

F.TXT | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support

What is not yet clear to me is the following:

“For a long time now, whenever I select something on the Swisscom HP, a large text file appears”

How does this text file appear in the browser? Does the editor automatically open and show the contents of the file, as shown in your screenshot? If so, you can set somewhere in FireFox that it should not automatically open downloaded files. The alternative would be to use another browser.

When the problem occurs, which is about every other day, all of the text appears above the normal screen.

As shown above.

In the FF you can set where downloads should be loaded. I set it to “Desktop” because I don’t download much.

@Jürgen N is it possible that this error has happened since the Blue HP ‘update’? Maybe something was technically adjusted that triggers this in connection with FF…

Does it work now that you also disabled the “Open automatically” option?

@Jürgen N

Here you can set in the FireFox pro extension whether FF should download or display:

If you set .txt to download, the problem is solved so far, i.e. the file will no longer be opened automatically.

I would like to ask Swisscom once again to address this problem.

Today it’s particularly bad again.

I can’t click on anything on swisscom.ch without this f.txt page appearing.

Thanks and greetings!

Unfortunately, I can’t reproduce your problem on any device with Firefox?

Devices: Windows 11 Desktop, Notebook, iMAC, Macbook and Linux PC.

Maybe empty all “Remove data” as described in the image below.

Swisscom cannot change your browser settings.

If you adjust the settings in the browser, as shown in post 7 above, so that files with the ending.txt should not be opened automatically but should only be saved, then the problem should be solved.

The fact that “f.txt” is saved in “Downloads” is little consolation.

At first it appears large on the screen, very disturbing.

As mentioned, everything is in the latest, latest version.

I also use the latest Firefox and the file f.txt is only stored under Downloads but never displayed. This is probably the case with most other customers, otherwise you would read a lot more about it here in the forum.

If you can’t get it right with the settings, you probably have no choice but to use another browser. You can also submit a fault report:

I don’t know this problem on any computer, nor do other users have this problem and I put my download in a special folder and nothing arrives there??

But it would be interesting why that is the case for you!!

@WalterB

It has long been known that Firefox temporarily stores a file f.txt on the computer depending on the website visited.

That’s not a problem if this happens in the background and the file is not opened at the same time.

I have checked several computers and the file f.txt is present on all of them. You probably just haven’t noticed them yet or your ad blocker is preventing it.

@hed

The ad blocker thing might be possible, but it is usually switched off on Swisscom sites.

AdBlocker Ultimate is designed with the sole purpose of eliminating all ads so you can focus on the content you want.

Features
- removes all ads
- Blocks malware and tracking
- Improve browser performance
- no “acceptable” ads or whitelisted websites/advertising networks

@WalterB

I know very well how an ad blocker works.

Since the f.txt file is generated by Google Ads, it is reasonable to assume that an ad blocker, as a pleasant side effect, also prevents this file from being downloaded automatically.

@hed

This note about the ad blocker should be viewed as general for other users. 😉

Ads appear automatically without you having to click on them!

Try as a test activating the “AdBlocker”, which can be found under “Extra” and then “Add-ons”.

Sometimes you just have to deactivate this for pages that require passwords.
