Fiber optic module for IB 3

  • Hi everyone

    I just switched. In the old place (terrible) copper internet like in 2010 or something šŸ˜…

    New fiber optic 10 GB according to Swisscom. I didn’t have a cable so I got one from the electronics shop. Then I noticed that the red ā€œfiber optic moduleā€ was missing from the IB3. I never received that. Does anyone know how to get there?

    On the phone I was told to order the cable from you or buy it in the shop, but according to the online shop you have to have the module at home… Has anyone ever had to organize that? No network when working from home is a disaster šŸ˜”

    • Short feedback.

      Move reported online for September 24, 2022. I was just in the new building and received the OTO number and passed it on to Swisscom. IB4 and the corresponding Glasfaserkit for XGS-PON should arrive by post on time so that the change can go smoothly.

      There will still be minor questions, but the worst part has been done. Phew 🄳

      Thank you all again for your help.

      Best regards

    Hello @Javallon

    If you have a technology change, if you have an old router you will get a new one.

    If your. Router works, they would have to send the fiber optic kit.

    Call Swisscom and explain in a friendly manner, they will check what you ordered and what you had at the old place. Then a fiber optic kit should be sent to you.

    Thank you. hm the move has been reported for 2 weeks and so far nothing has arrived. It’s stupid that you’re now without a network and have to work šŸ˜… I was on the phone with support, but they wanted to solve the problem differently (ā€œYou have to buy the cable from us and the module is includedā€). Tomorrow we’ll see if anything happens

    @Javallon

    So if that was actually the advice from the hotline, there is a big incompetence problem, because the SFP-XGS-PON module is not sold by Swisscom at all, but is sent specifically when Swisscom itself recognizes the need for the connection. And it isn’t included in the replacement fiber cable you may have purchased.

    When moving, you should actually check what technology is available at the old and new location. Then whether the line at the new location is already ā€œalways onā€ or whether a line still needs to be switched (e.g. because the previous tenant/owner of the apartment/house used a different provider. Then it is not checked whether the current router matches the Anschluss and accessories are necessary. In this case, accessories (fiber optic set for XGS-PON) would be necessary.

    Call the hotline, politely say that unfortunately the necessary fiber optic set is still missing and that it will be checked and then sent to you. You may also be able to pick it up at a kiosk. But support has to check this and you get information that you can then get it from the kiosk.

    @Javallon: I just wanted to see what went wrong in the process… but I can’t find any reasonable access from your nickname. Can you send me the new connection information (and address) via PM.

    Best regards

    Exactly, that’s THE process that ā€œnormallyā€ works.

    Everything outside of this process is ā€œdifficultā€ā€¦ā€¦.

    @gur_helios

    Why it apparently didn’t work for @Javallon - would be interesting to find out…

    That’s exactly how it is, please just report the move and arrange with our people where the part will be sent.
