Firmware IB 2

  • Good morning,

    I just see that my IB2 has a higher firmware than is currently shown on the Swisscom update page.

    Mine is 13.00.38, according to the Swisscom homepage the current date is 12.02.48.

    Funny???

    Greetings Martin

      OK, thanks for the hint. The Twodns server was down, so no problems with Swisscom hardware.

    You seem to be part of the first pre-rollout of FW13.xx

    This involves testing with tens of thousands of customers how the FW behaves on a mass scale. So it’s a release candidate.

    Don’t worry, the 13 FW is not beta, it has been extensively tested in the field for about half a year

    Interesting…

    I run OpenVPN on a Synology NAS, port forwarding is done in the IB so that it works.

    Recently it has been taking over half a minute for the VPN connection to be established, sometimes it takes several attempts.
    Could this have something to do with the new firmware?

    Reset IB: no, I’ve never had to do that. Don’t forget the Kofig. back up to have everything the same again, otherwise I have to recreate all the forwarding.

    Didn’t know that you can reload old firmware.

    Synology also has a new DSM that you have to install manually, from 7.0.1 to 7.1. But VPN didn’t cause any problems with the 7.0.1 version before.

    Thank you. Greetings Martin

    You can - but sooner or later it will be automatically overwritten with the newer FW. But it’s enough to try it out.

    Sometimes a restart is enough, no backup/restore is required. This is always the first step when problems arise.

    Before a factory reset you have to make a backup. There are two ways to do this: locally as a file on the PC or saving it to Swisscom’s Kundencenter.

    Since there are two different SW versions for Syno and IB, you now have 4 different options for testing:

    SW old Syno + SW old IB

    SW new Syno + SW old IB

    SW old Syno + SW new IB

    SW new Syno + SW new IB

    It’s quite possible that there are certain combinations where the VPN works and others where it doesn’t, or the problem lies somewhere else entirely. Test it out, then you’ll know.

    Downgrading the IB is not a problem, but it may be automatically updated again overnight.

    @Maschwi

    Before a factory reset you have to make a backup….

    Not fundamentally. Only if you have made your own network settings and/or port forwarding or similar personal settings.

    WiFi settings, phone book etc. are automatically saved in Kundencenter and restored after a reset, so a 0815 customer does not have to save anything manually before the reset.

    @POGO 1104

    The answer primarily related to the request from @Maschwi and he wrote from Forwarding, so he is probably not a run-of-the-mill customer.

    And I also recommend that all other customers create a local backup before a factory reset, one thing is for sure, especially since there have already been problems with the data in the KC.

    Setting up new port forwarding takes a few mouse clicks.

    A backup of the config also needs to be reloaded, but there is also a reboot.

    Saving the config is nice, but in most cases it’s not really necessary.

    One of the golden rules in IT is to create a backup regularly and before any changes. And this rule should become a habit for everyone, even those who are only remotely involved in IT. And even if you don’t need it 1000 times, you’ll be extremely happy about it 1001 times. And a planned reboot isn’t that tragic, on the contrary.

    OpenVPN with twodns de now works again, at least at the moment… it has nothing to do with firmware IB, but we deviated from that in the discussion…
