Update internet box to firmware 12.00.52

  • Dear community

On Friday I updated my IB 2 to the latest firmware 12.00.52 (August). However, this firmware causes massive problems as follows:

    Webgui of the box:

With Mac (Safari, Big Sur) and iOS devices (Safari) I can only log in to the overview page. A click on the navigation, e.g. to the WLAN overview, goes nowhere: nothing is loaded and about 10 seconds later I’m back on the login page!

I can only log in and navigate with Android devices (Samsung S10 and Chrome browser, but very slowly.

    Performance of the box:

The box now needs massively more CPU, around 30% even when idle, with the old firmware (11.03.50/11.03.48, April 2021) it was half as much!

For me the new firmware is unusable. The Swisscom Tech. Support kindly did a remote downgrade to the old firmware, but the box will update itself again sooner or later.

    - Can someone put the firmware (RUI file) of 11.03.50/11.03.48 on a cloud (e.g. Dropbox) for me to download?

    - Does anyone have the same problem?

Thanks for the feedback, I’m getting desperate

    Hello Marc

You can download the firmware directly from the Swisscom server using the following link:

    [https://www.swisscom.ch/dam/swisscom/de/biz/sme/public/hilfe/ib2\_np\_11-03-50.rui](https://www.swisscom.ch/dam/ swisscom/de/biz/sme/public/hilfe/ib2_np_11-03-50.rui)

    Greeting

    Uwe

PS: It works now. It’s an IB2.

Thank you very much! This helps at least temporarily until Swisscom provides a new update (which will hopefully be better tested)!

I just made the appropriate download link for the immediate downgrade of my WLAN Box 1 using a bit of reverse engineering from your link 🙂

I can’t say anything about the firmware version on the IB2 that is problematic for you, but the same version on the IB3 runs absolutely perfectly.

It actually looks more like an installation/upgrade problem to me.

Combating symptoms on your IB2 by downgrading is actually the wrong way.

The next time you have this problem, I would recommend simply giving your IB2 a hard reset with the staple and you will most likely have better firmware afterwards than before.

You will automatically be updated to the latest version; a downgrade does not make sense for many reasons (security).

    About your problems:

If you log in to the GUI or if you are already logged in and then go back to the overview page, something has changed in connection with the display of the speed test, which means that if you make a different selection too quickly, you will then be kicked out again becomes. This can currently be dealt with with a little calm. So log in and wait (a few seconds) until the speed test field appears in the middle. Then you can click around in the WEB GUI as normal, only when you go back to the overview page, then wait a moment. The problem is known and I hope that it will be solved soon. But it’s only cosmetic and, in contrast to other security-related bug fixes and new functions, can really be neglected.

CPU load: should actually drop back to normal after a short time. If not, a simple restart usually helps. Otherwise @JonasB would have to look at the box to see which process triggers the CPU load. There’s a 100% chance that it’s not a mass problem, but an isolated case.

Unfortunately, this is not the only bug:

    - Not only the overview page loads extremely slowly, every other page too, if at all…after about 10 seconds I end up back on the login page

    - The graphical view of the “network topology” is completely messed up, is extremely slow and the display multiplies when moving (the topology appears in the new location and remains in the old one)

    - With iOS and Mac OS devices the effects are even more extreme than, for example, with a browser under Windows/Android

All of these effects are new and have NOT appeared in any update before. I now have the April version back on and everything works. So far I’ve been pretty happy with the updates but this one doesn’t seem to have been tested enough to me 😞

It is tested, more than enough and long… Yes, with Safari on Apple devices it is a little more complicated. But none of these “issues” should prevent the update, as every update contains the latest security and stability updates. Therefore, there have never been any security problems so far, as the latest patches are always rolled out quickly.

    - Tested enough? Also with Apple devices and Safari? I have my doubts. Previous updates also ran smoothly with Apple devices and Safari. This is the first update since the IB that is buggy

    - Idle CPU load is also higher than with April FW

I hope there will be an update soon that will fix the deficiencies.

    Switch browser? Bad joke, right?

Why should I switch browsers? Safari is Apple’s primary browser, so I expect Swisscom to test the Web Gui with it. On iOS there is n.b. only the Safari browser, all others including Firefox use Apple Webkit (Safari).

Nope, real world. There will always be applications where browser A complains and browser B or C doesn’t. No matter whether Swisscom or SBB or anything else. You can expect whatever you want…

This only applies to exotic browsers, but certainly not to Safari with over 9% MA, the second most widely used browser [https://de.statista.com/statistics/data/study/157944/umfrage/marktteile-der-browser-bei-der-internetnutz-weltweit-seit-2009/](https://de.statista.com /statistics/data/study/157944/survey/market-shares-of-browsers-in-internet-use-worldwide-since-2009/)

It MUST be tested. Especially in the Apple universe, where there are not just any combinations of hardware and OS.

Swisscom simply didn’t do a good job with the update; there are already a few other bugs that are being discussed here. It’s a shame and I hope for bug fixes soon.

I just tested the combination IB3/12.00.52/IPadOS/Safari.

    Absolutely no problems.

I would really give your IB2 a hard reset with the staple and then try again with 12.00.52.

Apart from local names (which you can save locally as a config in advance), you can lose absolutely nothing of the current settings and if it still doesn’t help, it only took 5 minutes.

Nope, because browsers A, B and C are the browsers with the highest market share - and there are also applications where one browser doesn’t run smoothly and the other does.

But that can change with a new release of the application or the browser… This is “real life”.

In a perfect world, EVERY of the most widely used browsers will run 100% with EVERY application…

    Perfect world vs. real world?!?

I know, but the GUI part and the interfaces are exactly the same and the only differences are in the hardware-specific drivers.

Most “real” firmware errors usually occur regardless of the exact type of Internet box.
