When creating an album, the thumbnails are distorted or scaled according to the fixed thumbnail size. This always worked perfectly in the past.
I can’t find any setting option for this.
There used to be a mode in which not all thumbnails were displayed in the same format.
Did he disappear again?

I understand @BeatB’s question perfectly because I’ve had the same problem since this week, but in my opinion the answers have nothing to do with the question.
Yesterday I created a new album and the thumbs are displayed square. I can choose the size “small, medium, large” but not the format of the thumbs.
Did I do something wrong or was something changed?

I obviously should have written MY problem has been solved. My thumbs were distorted and squashed, they all appeared square. The cause was that I had loaded the images into the files and not into the photos. I then created an album from the files, which worked without any problems, but the thumbs were destroyed. I deleted the photos in the files and reloaded them to the photos, created a new album and my problem was solved :-).
Exactly that is the reason for the still open answer. So please be patient.
@beatp A little tip by the way, if you type an @ and then select (or type) the name, the user will get a notification.

A few days ago I deleted all the pictures and uploaded them all again. All were compressed back into the square grid. By the way, everyone is affected by the problem.
All thumbnails are square, it wasn’t like that before. Interestingly, the thumbnails in the albums in the mycloud app on the iPhone are square (as always) but not distorted, just cut off.
Am I actually the only one who has this problem?
