I don’t know who takes part in objections because I’m a customer like you. You might be able to get more information from the municipal administration.

I can’t say how far things have progressed down there!

@WalterB

The post you sent concerns the antenna in Buckten and not the one in laufenlfingen. According to my measurements in Buckten, this antenna should have already been converted, as I have achieved up to 1Gbit/s.

@TomatoTec What is real 5G? De facto, there is now 5G throughout Switzerland in the previous frequency bands up to 2100 MHz. This already has many advantages over 4G in terms of capacity. But you will never get the marketing speeds of 5G in the bands. This requires expansion in the 3.5 MHz band, which is slowly but surely progressing. However, the range in this frequency band is significantly shorter than in the other bands, so you can only achieve really high speeds close to the antenna (a few hundred meters).

And in principle, the current rule for Switzerland is that 5G is only used as a data add-on in the network. The core of the actual network behind it is still 4G technology. This is called 5G NSA (Non stand alone). Only with the introduction of 5G SA will the core be 5G and then all the advantages, e.g. extremely short latencies, will come into play.

Select 5G+ here. This is the frequency band 3.5MHz.

An iPhone is not as precise with its icon display as other manufacturers in this regard. This is also the case with 4G. The Apple cell phone never shows 4G+ (with the plus). On a Samsung smartphone, the display is much more accurate. Real 5G+ is displayed with a black filled 5G symbol, otherwise the 5G symbol is not filled in and is white.

Why can I receive 5G in laufenlfingen even if the antenna only supports a maximum of 4G?

There are also 5G antennas (green) nearby. But if the field strength is low, you don’t get much benefit.

@“x”#1036299Swisscom has 4G antennas in operation at least on the Hauenstein, I would assume that they also have 5G antennas there.
If you see the 5G symbol, you are at least receiving 5G from somewhere. There are apps to take a closer look at where it comes from, but that probably doesn’t help.

I assume the “5G” signal comes from the antenna at the train station in laufenlfingen, although the 5G cannot do it, as I always have full 5G reception in laufenlfingen itself. Just keep it very slow.

In addition, according to the map, laufenlfingen should even have 5G+, but I can’t confirm that at all.

Depending on the phone, the reception bar does not show the signal strength of the 5G signal, but of the strongest cell received, which may be 4G, even though 5G is displayed.

The 4G antenna in laufenlfingen can apparently only support band 20 and that’s just slow.

You could see in the official gazette whether a building application for a 5G antenna is outstanding and the municipality should be able to provide information about whether objections are pending.

Reception was perfect until October 2023!

But you’re now talking about a completely different topic here… Did you write that yesterday? Do you no longer have reception at home? Unfortunately, this can happen in individual cases, or what have you done? Sorry, but if you need help, please be more specific. Nobody can help you like that!

In the meantime I contacted SC or rather Wingo again because I noticed that my iPhone only rarely connected to the laufenlfingen antenna. And there is actually news about the laufenlfingen cell phone location.

According to Swisscom, the LAFL antenna (the one at the train station) would have to be dismantled, which unfortunately has worsened or worsened the network coverage in general in laufenlfingen. The commissioning of a new antenna (LADS - laufenlfingen south (similar location)) with 4G and 5G is planned. However, this should not be in operation until November 2025 at the latest. Until then, the existing old antenna should not be completely switched off.

As far as I know, no building application has been submitted yet, but contact with the municipality is said to have already taken place in July 24.

There are also three building applications for the expansion of antennas on the train route between laufenlfingen and Buckten.
