Christmas lights on myStrom WiFi Switch: USB adapter gets extremely hot

I hung a Christmas light with USB Anschluss on a USB/power adapter, the adapter is attached to a MyStrom switch. Works wonderfully so far, time rule set and everything works.

After a while the light kept turning off and on again. I noticed that the USB adapter (a cheap product from Interdiscount) gets extremely hot. So immediately unplugged it and tried it with the white adapter from Apple. The adapter just gets a little warm.

On the packaging of the LED light it says “1.5 V / 2AA”, in the app it says the consumption is “6.0 W”. Is that possible and is the value too high?

the power is 6 watts divided by 1.5 volts = 4A!!! if the information is correct. Actually a USB Anschluss has 5V.~

Sorry I read it wrong 2× 1.5V batteries makes 3V.

if I recalculate that with 5V that makes 1.2 A. Depends on what kind of power supply adapter you have, can it really deliver 2 A mpere?

Edit: I wrote this as a supplement to the post by @user109 to point out the difference to the batteries - but basically everything is already classified correctly there.

What you write first (1.5V, 2AA): This refers to battery operation. If you take 2 LR6 (AA) batteries with 1.5V, the thing can be operated.

Alternatively, there seems to be USB operation here. As already mentioned, the voltage here is typically 5V. I can’t evaluate whether your chain can really handle the different tensions or not. But if it can handle 5V, then it is important that your USB adapter can handle at least 1.2 A (for amps) (if it is really 6W). It’s possible that your Interdiscount USB device only supports 1.0 (or even less) and that’s why it’s screwed. I would have used a device that supports 2A.

If the USB charger gets hot, it is either defective or overloaded. Most USB chargers are also not built for continuous operation, i.e. only for 1-2 hours of charging and not for operating lighting for several hours.

With this adapter from Apple everything fits perfectly:

I have two fairy lights with this Anschluss on them, now nothing gets warm or hot anymore. hot.

However, I currently have the problem that one myStrom WiFi switch from Swisscom works and has been set up correctly, but the time rule doesn’t work. The first switch put into operation works perfectly in all respects.

But I will place this on the topic fairly in the community.

If you have problems with the MyStrom Switch, the homepage at the link below is a good place to start.

and

I use two MyStrom switches for Christmas lighting with electronic time setting. I had to replace one of the first older MyStrom switches because the switching contact got stuck and I could no longer turn it off with my finger at the top of the switch symbol.

OK thank you, will visit the website.

Otherwise the switch seems to work, it appears everywhere, give it a name, test it, no problem. Manual on/off is also possible.

It turns on correctly when the second is set, but doesn’t turn off after 8 hours (that’s how it’s set).

This is how one of the MyStrom Christmas lights switches is set.

Set everything up in the original MyStrom app.

I use the Swisscom Home App very rarely, and with the Logi Circle Camera I mainly use the original app.

I mainly use the Swisscom app in connection with the Internet box, central storage and telephone actions.

aha, I didn’t even know there was another app for this, I thought it was a pure Swisscom product. I’ve downloaded the app and am setting it up. Thanks for the tip

Some firmware is installed every 3-4 months and the nice thing about it is that you can see this very well with the original app.

N.b. It may be that if the LED stays red for a long time after an update, you have to briefly unplug and plug in the MyStrom Switch so that the LED lights up white again (very rare).
