Install Internet-Box 2 with G-Fast SFP from Internet-Box plus?

Yesterday I wanted to install a new Internet-Box 2 - which I received a year ago - instead of the previous Internet-Box plus. Unfortunately I couldn’t get an internet connection. Is it possible that the “old” G.Fast SFP is not compatible with the Internet-Box 2?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hello @Freerider

And since you left the IB2 in the corner for a long time, you first have to update the firmware to the latest version. Otherwise the IB2 will not be able to register.

Go to [https://www.swisscom.ch/de/privatkunden/hilfe/internet/firmware-aktualisierungen-fuer-ihre-internet-box.t.3.html](https://www.swisscom.ch/ de/private customers/help/internet/firmware-updates-for-your-internet-box.t.3.html)

Download the FW.

Now connect to the router 192.168.1.1

Go to Internal Box Firmware.

Do the update and then complete the registration. To do this, go to swisscom.ch/Start

@Freerider

I also changed the box last week and it took almost an hour for the LED on the new box to switch from red to white. It often helps to just wait long enough.

And of course, you should definitely do the SW upgrade.

Hello @hed

I only read LED red in your Betrag. Read too quickly.

There is also red flashing on the router.

I don’t know what condition his router has…

I find it very difficult to assume that if the router has been sitting around unused for over a year, it will no longer see the update server itself and will therefore have to update the firmware by hand. After that, the updates will run as usual.

I’ve experienced this a few times now with customers. I also have to update certain of my replacement routers that I have in the car by hand, which I rarely need.

Hello Jürg, thank you for your quick answer.

Also thanks to @Lori-77 for the guy with the software update.

The G.Fast SFP is actually already installed in the Internet-Box 2 and will also be displayed under connection type after the change.

Below is a brief summary of my experience from today. Cautious as always, I backed up the “old” box to the Swisscom portal. Unfortunately, that was only half the battle. I would have been better off making a backup on my PC, because I didn’t have any internet or even access to the Internet-Box 2 to restore it.

After several unsuccessful attempts at resetting etc. I even had to call customer service. With the help of a nice lady, the problem was gradually solved. The first thing that turned out was that this Internet-Box 2 was not registered in my account. Swisscom had to reconfigure my Anschluss internally.

Then it became apparent that when I changed the Internet Box Plus to an Internet Box 2, the aforementioned backup did not configure everything correctly again. In any case, the Dect phones had to be re-registered “by hand”. The rest could be reset using a backup. It’s working now!

Unfortunately, we repeatedly notice that the instructions are not read (RTFM!). With the IB2/3 you can also see in the picture that everything should be dismantled. The SFP of the IB s/p is not explicitly mentioned, but the box is completely removed. So new router = clean new installation. IB2/3 both have g.Fast capability, the SFP slot is currently only intended for the fiber module. There is also nothing in the instructions about a g.Fast SFP.

If you ordered the box (from us, not Ricardo or Tutti), the Anschluss waits for 30 days for the new box to automatically connect (pairing Anschluss, box and customer data). You then have to identify yourself via the splash page so that the pairing can take place.

If the box does not have the latest firmware on it, it will get it automatically in this phase. So don’t download anything yourself, just be patient when putting it into operation, because the box has to restart again and depending on the Anschluss, each resync takes between 50 and 180 seconds. The WLAN and DECT settings, etc. are also automatically. fetched. Special settings such as port forwarding, which must be secured, are excluded. It doesn’t matter where they are stored, because after pairing you have full Internet access and you can retrieve them from the cloud.

If everything worked out… happy homeworking 🙂 Please close the discussion here.

Best regards

@Roger G Unfortunately I can’t confirm that with the automatic FW update. When I had firmware on the router (CB / IBx) FW generations that were 2-3 years old, the automatic FW update did not work, despite pairing via the MOT. The router no longer pulled an update and could no longer communicate with the ACS server.

I waited more than 45 minutes and nothing happened. Only when I manually updated the FW did it work.

Just like @Lori-77 wrote.

P.S.: The automatic FW update only works if the FW is a maximum of 2-3 generations old.

It is also logical why, the certificate should not last forever on the ACS servers for security reasons. In addition, I don’t have to keep so many firmware versions in stock.

I can only confirm @user109, especially if the FW has Ver 8.xx, nothing works anymore. Snych router is also measurable. The customer can enter the login details on the start page as often as he wants.

Even pairing with Mot or in the system does not bring any improvement.

The helpdesk will then replace the box to ensure it is not defective. Just because the customer hadn’t connected it for too long.

Or the CFS makes the update on site.

The automatic FW update generally works. However, in the past a certificate had to be updated 2-3 times, which is necessary for communication between the router and the IB. Therefore, older versions could not reach the update server. However, there are only very few boxes whose FW was too old for various reasons. There was also a clean-up operation in the spring. 1xx customers were called. Unfortunately, only half did a reset, the other half thought that scammers were calling. Unfortunately, their routers are lost until a manual update. And of course if you never connect a router, then there may be an old firmware on it. Then only a manual update will help.

But the following applies: if you bring your router online and you have access to the Internet (possibly with a manual AllIP registration via www.swisscom.ch/Access), then the FW is at least ok so far that you can expect an automatic update. If the FW is not updated after 48 hours, you have to intervene manually.
