Vimeo app on UHD TV box - registration not possible

  • Hello,

I’m trying to log into the Vimeo app on the UHD TV box so I can watch videos I’ve purchased. Unfortunately the white spinning circle comes and nothing happens. The rest of the app works, I can watch free videos, but the registration doesn’t work. Tested with 2 UHD TV boxes, one directly with cable to the IB2, the other via cable via Cisco switch in the other room. Both react the same. Does anyone else have this problem? Thank you very much for your answers.

    • Hello @capitanguex

This error in the Vimeo app itself is known and Vimeo is informed. It is currently not known when a new version of Vimeo will be released that will fix the problem.

      Greetings

The app worked very well for a long time and now there is a temporary problem on Vimeo’s part. In your opinion, should Swisscom now remove the app and reactivate it once the Vimeo problem has been resolved?

With the many TV channels and apps available via the SC box, there are always some with temporary disruptions. This is in the nature of things and cannot be prevented with reasonable effort.

Yes, it may be that the Vimeo app once worked well, but apparently it hasn’t worked for half a year. That’s just annoying when you pay for films/documentaries and can’t watch them on TV. Everything runs on the laptop/PC/tablet/phone, but I want to be able to watch it on the big TV via the SC box.

I am also aware of the difficulty, such apps have to run on various OSes (TV sets, PCs, set-top boxes, etc.) and legal questions have to be clarified. But I have the feeling that apps are included in the catalog too quickly.

The Netflix app no longer runs smoothly on the Swisscom Box since the new GUI. Netflix keeps crashing, white flickering on the TV. PLEX on the SC Box doesn’t play all films, but the app on the TV does.

The apps generally run more smoothly on the Samsung TV, but apps are much faster on the Swisscom Box.

Have you already reported the problem to the helpdesk (0800 800 800)?

And in the meantime, you can connect your laptop or tablet to the TV and watch Vimeo on the big screen.

    Show original language (German)

I haven’t reported the Netflix/Plex app problem yet, it’s still new and within the tolerance range. I’m confident that the apps on the SC box will soon work as they should.

The Vimeo app problem is known, I don’t have to report it too.

Connecting a laptop to the TV via cable is not an option (the TV is hanging on the wall, fiddling around, it’s already 2020 after all).

Now I have to take care of the ExLibris app, which no longer works like it did before on the Samsung TV. To be clear, this is NOT a Swisscom problem, it’s just intended to show that apps often simply don’t run correctly, regardless of the provider.

In general, I have to say this very clearly, the SC-Box runs very reliably, quickly and I am a satisfied Swisscom customer. 🙂

And if the TV is not ancient, you can also start Vimeo directly on the TV, or stream it from the tablet over the air to the PC… There are many options.

That’s true, there are many options, but unfortunately the result is not always optimal. A solution with additional cables or Roku or Chromcast is ultimately just a hobby. 🙂

Thanks for your response! I apologize for the confusion.
There’s a known issue where users are unable to log into the Vimeo app on Android TV devices and Amazon Fire TV devices. Unfortunately the issue doesn’t seem to occur consistently enough for us to identify and fix.
In general our TV app team prioritizes features and fixes to most efficiently utilize our engineering resources. I’m sorry to say, but this issue is unlikely to be further investigated or resolved in a timely manner.
Again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue. If you have any other questions about Vimeo, please let me know.

    @jacobacci

So somehow you should recognize where the login error is.

    @WalterB

Thanks for the translation, sorry I didn’t do it straight away.

I assume that Vimeo has other priorities at the moment. Hence the suggestion that Swisscom (which certainly has more weight at Vimeo than an individual customer) contacts Vimeo

Here is the answer I just received from Vimeo:

    Thanks for writing back in.
To clarify, this issue has already been previously escalated to our development team. While it was investigated, it was unfortunately decided that a fix would not be prioritized.
Again, I’m sorry that this is not the answer you hoped for and that a resolution is unlikely to be investigated.

    Hello @jacobacci

Vimeo was informed about the error by Swisscom a long time ago 😉
Unfortunately, that doesn’t help either… because it seems like Vimeo hasn’t made any updates for the BigScreen app since 2017.

But this app isn’t completely useless - you can also use it without logging in…

    Show original language (German)

@UrsSch Thanks for the update, Urs

It’s strange that Vimeo doesn’t care in the slightest. The app on Chromecast / Google TV doesn’t work either.

I suspect that the “Login on TV/device via code” infrastructure at Vimeo was phased out without adapting the apps. Brave new world.

    Hello @jacobacci

Vimeo has simply stopped making app updates for the BigScreen app since 2017.

The Android mobile Vimeo app itself just got an update yesterday 😉

    according to Google Play Store

I suspect that you and I are not the target audience 😁

Because the “old” bags still have TVs.

And the majority of young people use the tablet/web or their mobile for such apps.
I suspect Vimeo does a tough analysis of where their content is viewed and where not.

And the BigScreen app no longer has to play a role on Vimeo.

There’s no other way to explain why nothing has happened since 2017…

    But there is still YT.

    Hello @UrsSch

You speak from my heart. Part of the reason I’m using technology that’s around 20 years old is because I don’t want to do everything on my smartphone.

Thank you for your support, we all appreciate it!
