The phone rings but then there is no sound

My grandma has a HD-Phone Davos from Swisscom connected via Internet Box2 from Swisscom.

Incoming calls to the landline:

My doorbell rings but I can’t hear it.

Outgoing calls from landlines:

But there is also no sound from the other person.

She previously had an E560HX from Gigaset and the symptoms occurred there every 1-2 months, which is why she switched to Davos.

Unfortunately it still happens.

Resetting the router and restarting it doesn’t help, nor does port reset and reconfig.

You always have to deregister the phone completely and reconnect it but after 1-2 months everything starts again.

Router has already been changed.

What could be the problem here?

In my opinion, your description of the problem and the measures you have already taken do not indicate a local error (in the device or in the IB2). The problem could also be caused by the server or the transmission path.

Access the IB2 diagnostic menu via the web portal and show us a screenshot of the Internet connection measurements.
Web portal > (activate expert mode) > Diagnostics > Internet > Measured values for your Internet Anschluss

    Please show us the Internet access section from the same diagnostic path.

    Since I have a fiber optic connection (FTTH), I lack the skills and experience to comment on your measurements. I suspect it could be a g.fast based Anschluss.

    It would be helpful if one of our experts assessed your measurements.

    @Rischioruz46

    The line profile looks completely normal for a vectorized VDSL2-Anschluss. So the problems shouldn’t come from there.

    Switching from the Gigaset to a Davos certainly didn’t make sense, because modern Gigasets are usually more stable than Swisscom’s co-branded HD phones, but since the problem already occurred with the Gigaset, it’s probably not the phone’s fault.

    And now, what now?

    I would reset the router while it’s running with a paper clip until it reinstalls the current firmware again, then log the phone or phones, if you still have both, into the router using the + button, etc., and then do the whole setup test again extensively.

    If it doesn’t help, probably go to second level support via the help desk.

    By the way, with the whole suggestion I am assuming that there is nothing exotic and prone to interference in this environment, such as powerlines, radio or DECT repeaters, etc.

    No, the Anschluss “only” works for telephony, so there is no powerline or anything similar.

    The whole thing is strange…

    Yesterday I loaded the latest FW manually onto the IB2 (already on it), then deleted the phone from the router GUI, reset everything and re-registered.

    At the moment it’s working again but the only question is how long because, as already mentioned, this happens every two to three months.

    Hello everyone

    We have the same effect on us. We ordered a new Gigagset CL660HX and put it into operation, and after a short time the sound went away on our side or on the other side. We borrowed another Gigaset and the effect is still the same (no sound or just a rattle).

    Did the reset do anything or is there any other news about this case?

    It would be great if someone knew more about it.

    Thank you very much and kind regards,

    Pascal

    Hello Pascal

    This is a well-known problem that occurs to me again and again. A long time ago it was said that the SC was working on a router update. So far nothing seems to have worked (or the update didn’t work).

    After restarting the Internet box it works again. I regularly restart as a precaution, but sometimes I forget and then I have the problem again when making calls (it happened again last night).

    Greeting

    Hello Daffyd

    Many thanks for your response!

    Then at least we now know what we have to do if it doesn’t work again.
    And if restarting is an issue, I’ll set a timer until the problem on the router is solved 😉

    Merci and kind regards,

    @gafnerpa

    This usually only happens when there is a new firmware update for the Internet box and that is very rare.

    @gafnerpa

    The timer thing isn’t a good idea. If you force the IB to reboot every day, the system may detect this as a line error and as a result the bandwidth may be automatically reduced.

    Hello everyone

    We had fixed various telephony / DECT problems in the past. Unfortunately, we cannot reproduce the problems described in our test setups because, as described, they do not occur systematically and rarely.

    If we had the opportunity to take a look at the Internet box when the problem persists (without rebooting), that would help us enormously in fixing the remaining issues.

    Write me a PM if you have repeated problems, then we can activate logs on the Internet boxes in advance.

    Have a good week and greetings

    Same problem here today, Gigaset CL660 without micro function. Removed batteries and restarted… doesn’t help

    then read the text that you have to reboot the SWisscom box.

    That’s it… now it’s working again, but sorry SWisscom, it’s not a situation in 2021 to sit out the problem.

    Hello @Nieplauyei65

    We are not just sitting through this problem. We introduced various bug fixes in the area of telephony in the last release and are happy to look at individual open problems directly. As I described above, ideally we should connect to the Internet box if the problem exists so that our experts can extract all the necessary logs to understand the issue.
