Huawei LTE Stick an Internet-Box 2

  • Hello everyone. Is it possible to connect a USB LTE stick to the Internet-Box 2 so that the connection is maintained in the event of a DSL failure. is automatically maintained via LTE? Has anyone tried this yet?

Yes, that is possible. However, I don’t know whether it works with every LTE stick and I haven’t tried it myself yet

Some time ago @Anonymous said that the corresponding offers and technical information were in preparation.

    Any news from anyone?

I also tried this today with a Huawei E303 & a E3372h-153 on the USB 2.0 port of the IB2. The SIM card (subscription “NATEL® data go Swiss premium”) does not have a PIN, so it would have to go online directly.

Result, both sticks always show a “stand-by” status, even if I pull the copper DSL cable. I have already restarted the router. Didn’t help anything. Screenshot below. It’s also strange that the DNS server and the IP address are not displayed, which actually means to me that the stick has no connectivity. Theoretically the sticks would have status LEDs, but I don’t know by heart which color means what.

Can anyone say something about that? Shouldn’t that actually work?

    Greetings

    @hohlst

I would assume that LTE failover on the Internet boxes is not currently possible, but will only come in a future firmware release.

Of course, I would also be happy to let @Anonymous inform me about a more current status or plan.

@shorty I suspect that too. I’m a bit irritated because everything seems to be more or less prepared, see screenshot. It would be exciting if @Anonymous could say something about it.

Btw. My IB2 currently has the following firmware: 10.02.36 / 10.02.62

@hohlst the stick E3372 with software version: 22.328.62.00.1217 and web interface version: 17.100.18.05.1217 is still recognized as an unsupported device.

E3372 stick with firmware 21 should work on the IB2. (This version only supports Swisscom SIM cards)

So, I still had an older 21 firmware on the E3372h stick, and have now installed the current “21.329.63.01.103” as recommended. Unfortunately the result is the same, it doesn’t work. Still looks like the screenshot, it doesn’t seem to connect. I also tried both USB ports, the 2.0 at the top left and the 3.0 at the bottom right. No difference noticeable.

As mentioned in the post above, the SIM card is from Swisscom.

In order to operate an LTE stick on an Internet box, a special SIM card is required. A “normal” data SIM is no longer supported.

As described on the help pages, the offer is currently only available from inOne KMU Office with Service M & L.

In the meantime, the feature worked after reception was good enough.

Really great, I just saw your message now. Of course I tried it directly on my IB3, the LTE stick always remains in standby, no matter what I do.

Does this also apply to a smartphone as a backup path?

Who would come up with such an idea… Why on earth was the feature configured away? Just to be able to sell the higher-value subscriptions? And then only with specified SIM cards. Rarely have I heard something so illogical.

@hohlst with the smartphone (USB tethering), as suggested by my colleague @WalterB, it doesn’t matter which provider you have. Even works with DTAG SIM card. With this method you have more speed connect than with the USB mobile phone stick.

The statement from Link SC-TV is not supported, not entirely true. Replay (recorded shows) and On Demand Movies (rented movies), YouTube and Netflix are supported.
