Change IP range for Centro Business 2.0 fiber standard

Hello everyone

On March 22nd I get the Centro Business 2.0. Fiber standard delivered. Fiber optic 100 MBit.

I have assigned around 35 devices with fixed IP addresses in the range 172.17.1.xxx. All devices get their address from the Sonicwall firewall (IP: 172.17.1.1)

The Centro should now have the IP address 192.168.1.1. I would like to continue using the old address range.

Can I set the Centro to 172.17.1.0 (!!!) or 255? Then I can leave the firewall as it is and only have to change one address in the firewall.

I can also live with 172.17.1.1 for the Centro and 172.17.1.2 for the firewall.

Is that possible??

Hello and welcome to the forum

So you can’t use the addresses 172.17.1.0 and 255…

Basically, you can assign the Sonicwall and the CB an IP according to your preferences.

How is the Sonicwall’s WAN port configured? As DHCP?

The only thing that matters here is the WAN setting of your firewall. So you can use any range on the firewall in the LAN as long as it doesn’t violate a WAN range.

Perhaps configuring the IP passthrough mode would be an exception:

It describes how to configure the CB and the WAN port of the firewall.

Thanks for the answers.

Why were such specific IP addresses chosen in the document?

I would like to operate the firewall with 172.17.1.1 and use the entire range with 255.255.255.0.

You can run your firewall with it. You only have to set the WAN port in this range.

Do you realize that WAN and LAN are configured differently?

Theoretically you can leave the WAN port of your firewall on DHCP. This gives it a WAN IP from the range of the CB, something like 192.168.1.0/24. Your LAN for the firewall would still be 172.17.1.0/24.

Only then would you not benefit from the benefits of the CB.

Which benefits?

The router is already overwhelmed with over 40 network devices…

Not even the DECT base of this router is usable…

Thanks.

The benefits of the CB are for me

- Fiber optic Anschluss

- 100 Mbit and possibly more

- Continued use of my ISDN telephone system with 7 extensions

what else would I need?

If I give the CB an IP like e.g. 172.17.1.254 then I have no problems with the other addresses, my firewall could keep the 172.17.1.1 and I just have to tell the firewall the new destination IP from the CB.

Then everything in my network stays as usual.

The CB’s benefit would still have to work.
