Swisscom TV 2.0 UHD Box Signalausgang

  • What signal does the new Swisscom TV UHD box output?

    5OP/60P 4.4.4 or 4.2.2?

I would like to connect the UHD box to my Samsung SUHD TV UE78JS9580.

Here I have the option to adjust the HDMI input manually. With the setting in the HDMI UHD COLOR menu I can determine the signal input.

I read in an American test report or review that the new Samsung UHD Blu Ray player UBD-K8500 achieves the best picture quality when set on the TV using HDMI UHD COLOR 4.4.4.

Unfortunately, this setting cannot be set automatically on the TV.

    • 4:2:0, if I remember correctly.

Can’t you just set this device to UHD Color ON on the corresponding Anschluss?

    This processes signals up to 50P / 60P 4.4.4 or 4.2.2.

So I can’t make any further adjustments to this television’s little brother and the manual doesn’t say anything about it either. Except that such signals can be processed in this mode.

I’m living quite well with it so far.

So current live material (not yet on the box) comes in the multicast network with 4:2:0 10bit.

But maybe @RomanE can tell us something about the possibilities of the box?

@Ravelgust Can you now effectively define the interface so precisely or just specify yes or no there?

I activated the interface with Yes and if something higher were to arrive there, I’m on the safe side.

I can effectively “only” define HDMI UHD COLOR to ON or OFF. Apparently the rest falls into place.

Then the problem would be solved.

It’s just a shame that this isn’t done automatically in the background.

Perhaps this should be pointed out at the appropriate place.

Who would imagine this on their own?

Here is an addendum from the Samsung manual regarding HDMI UHD COLOR settings.

According to your information from 4.2.0 and color depth 10 bit, the setting is ON.

Supported resolutions for UHD input signals
    ●● Resolution: 3840×2160p, 4096×2160p

"" HDMI ports with (set to Off) HDMI UHD Color mode disabled support input signals up to UHD 50P/60P 4:2:0, 8 bit only

HDMI ports with (On) HDMI UHD Color mode enabled, however, input signals
    up to UHD 50P/60P 4:4:4 and 4:2:2.

For HDMI UHD Color – Off
    Frame rate (f/s) color depth / 50 / 60 P
    8 bits = YCbCr 4.2.0

For HDMI UHD Color – On
    Frame rate (f/s) color depth / 50 / 60 P

    8 bits = RGB 4.4.4, YCbCr 4.4.4, YCbCr 4.2.2, YCbCr 4.2.0

    10 bits = YCbCr 4.2.2, YCbCr 4.2.0

    12 bits = YCbCr 4.2.2, YCbCr 4.2.0

    or @UrsSch

I’m sure you can say something more about that. What comes out of the box or what would it even be capable of?

We want 4:4.4, regardless of whether you can see something or not 😄

I have a question for you. Do you also have image splitting problems with your Samsung? We should have the same 65 model…

I received the wrong box (not UHD) from Swisscom. Should be replaced this week.

I will report back regarding image sharing problems as soon as I can make a statement.

I have a Samsung UE78JS9580 and wanted to ask you whether you should switch on the HDMI UHD Color function with the new Swisscom TV 2.0 UHD box or does it matter?

Does the Samsung TV still upscale the HD/SD channels even if HDMI UHD Color is switched on?

@Ravelgust Do you have HDMI UHD Color on?

I have activated the HDMI input on HDMI UHD Color.

The output from the Swisscom TV UHD box is already at UHD quality (resolution) and does not need to be scaled up by the TV.

You can also play with this screen a bit. Smart LED on high can create a pseudo HDR effect. It’s still cool when the car headlights are blinding 🙂

Ok, I have now switched on HDMI UHD Color.

What effect does this setting have on image quality?

    Even better colors?

    I don’t really see a difference

I’ll play around with Smart LED to test the pseudo HDR effect.

Cool, watch TV with sunglasses, otherwise the sunset will be blinding.:smileyvery-happy:

Yes, yes. But there is a beta firmware that fixes that.

I don’t currently have it on the device. Don’t need SCTV that often.

@Tux0ne I wanted to ask you where you got the beta firmware that is supposed to fix the problem?

I struggle with the image splitting problems several times a day and it’s getting annoying…
