Problems with mobile data while traveling with prepaid

For some time now I have had the problem that the “Mobile Data” function on my cell phone (Samsung Galaxy S3 mini) no longer works properly. I can no longer use the internet.

I checked all the settings once according to the instructions on the Swisscom website. They should be correct. What could that be about?

I activate the mobile data manually via the settings when I need the Internet on the go (I have a prepaid).

What could that be about?

Thank you very much for the help.

Good morning Birdy

What settings have you entered?

Create a new access point with the following values:

Access point name: freely selectable

APN: gprs.swisscom.ch

Proxy: leave blank

Port: leave empty

APN type: default,supl

Do you still have any firewall software active? That could also be annoying

Lots of success and I’m looking forward to news

I tried that, unfortunately the mobile data still doesn’t work. The following message always appears: (…) because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates the name of a website into its corresponding Internet address.

Where can you see that you have installed a firewall?

Strangely enough, there is no 4G or 3G sign when I activate the “Mobile Data” function.

The WiFi works perfectly when I use my home network, for example… but not when I’m on the go…

The fact that a firewall can cause a problem on a mobile device, or that you can set up a firewall on a mobile device, is also something new to me.

Unfortunately I’m only familiar with iPhones.:smileysad:

Another option is to ask the Mobile Forum Switzerland at the link below.

Installationen, Netzwerk, Internet, Computertechnik, OS Windows, Apple und Linux.

Under Network Settings - Network Mode you can choose which technology your device connects to.

Did you set it to auto?

Certain virus scanners also offer a firewall option, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem for you.

Does SMS or telephone work?

Then you would at least be logged in online and still have credit.

As long as the mobile phone is not registered for the packet data service (Packet Switched => PS), no 3G, 4G, H, H+, G or E symbol appears on the display. During this time, only the circuit switched service (Circuit Switched => CS) can be used (voice telephony). In Android jargon, the packet data service is called “mobile data”.

Either the packet data service is turned off or the packet data service (APN) access point is not configured correctly. I’m guessing the second one. How to configure the access point (APN) has already been shown in detail.

So, I checked the access data and the configuration is correct. But I still can’t use the mobile data.

I stopped by a Swisscom shop. You took the SIM card out and put it back in and restarted it, but it still doesn’t work! They said that the device should be repaired… but I don’t fully understand because the WiFi works perfectly. Can this be?

WiFi has nothing to do with mobile data. (Except that both allow access to the Internet).

But if one does, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the other will automatically do the same. There are different hardware and software areas built into the device…
