Internet Box & (own) DNS & static routes

Hello everyone

I have a few services working at home that I have previously been able to access via DNS without any problems (own DNS server).

The Internet box has recently been working:

There I had to leave DHCP switched on (for the three TV boxes and the Rousseau; the DHCP pool has exactly four IPs, which are statically assigned)

All other devices get their DHCP and DNS information from the old server (which ignores the MAC addresses of the four SC devices) - but unfortunately also the IPv6 DNS address from the Internet box - and thus the Internet box is DNS- Moderately preferred (since IPv6 (unless you switch off IPv6 completely)).

There are application scenarios that require their own DNS servers or DNS entries. Why does the Internet Box lack this basic function? All of our home automation no longer works because of the forced box! This will create a huge craft solution.

If a box is forced on the customer, then one should at least expect that functions that other routers have had for 10 years are also built in!

P.S. A second subnet is also out of the question, as the option to enter static routes is also missing. Really tedious and disappointing - which really makes me doubt my choice of Swisscom.

P.P.S. And now please don’t mention double NAT - that brings completely different problems and no IPv6.

You will be able to specify the DNS servers to the DHCP server.

For a long time this was only laughed at. Be it because of the users who can no longer use certain services on the box with their own entries, or because of users who mean they have child protection activated even though there is no firewall that only allows these DNS servers.

I think it will be autumn until the next big release.

With enough pressure, the providers will have to change a lot in the future anyway, which will allow access to the desired technology to advanced users and not just to the users who have to take everything apart 😉

Are static routes still available, or do you have to resort to third-party products again at your own expense?

I’ve had a Fritzbox for a long time now, was super happy, had to switch because of Voice over IP, got the better box because of VPN and found that Swisscom still hasn’t learned anything.

VPN does not work on the Windows computer.

If you do it with VPN on the NAS, you have the problem that the modem cannot route statically.

Does anyone know if this is still coming? or do you have to look for alternatives?

Uncle Google knows about that too. Use the search function in the forum, it has already been discussed and solved
