Okay with that. I would also like to see passthrough appear in the options. I assume that I pay a subscription in order to have a connection, what I do inside my private network or the architecture that I use only concerns me and the double NAT of the DMZ is an aberration at the network level.

I would be interested in feedback on the card. However, not having fiber I could make do with a simple vdsl2 modem/router which would allow me to delegate the public IP, for example a netgear dm200 which costs almost nothing. The problem is the tv box… I don’t know how it behaves when it is not directly connected to the pathetic box provided by swisscom. It seems that a QOS is needed to guarantee a certain bandwidth and that there is multicast communication that must be able to pass, but will that be enough? mystery…

I saw on another post in the fiber category two links for configuring an ubiquiti router:

I ordered 😉 keep you in touch!

Interesting tutorial on the EdgeRouter.

However not so much valid for VDSL.
The big problem with VDSL remains the DHCP “client-identifier” option which allows pairing and activation of All-IP lines.

For VDSL there is still a problem that arises, it is the VDSL chips which will be “excluded” by Swisscom at the end of 2016.

For my part I had a Vivo line on a Cisco 1921 with integrated VDSL card (EHWIC-VA-DSL-A). Had no problem putting it all together and it worked.
I am now on a Business Internet service line (no need for TV) and Swisscom also “forces” their Business Internet Box 2, which I replaced with my Cisco 1921.
The only “problem” is that Cisco is expensive.

As I don’t have FTTH here, I can’t test other solutions. I ordered a USG-PRO-4 from ubiquiti (which is equipped with SFP) to test their products but I will not be able to test without FTTH.

VDSL bridges are available from Zyxel such as the VMG1312-bridge or the [P-870H-I](https:// www.zyxel.ch/fr/products/zyxel-p-870h-i-bridge/). However, you need a router behind it and that starts to add up to the bill.

@Papaschulz

Hi,

To have a USG-PRO-4 at home, I would say that with FTTH it is possible to configure internet access and IPv6.
For the TV part, I don’t know.

Another point, you must already be very familiar with tinkering. It will already be necessary to have a Unifi server (see unifi) and to know how to use SSH. Also follow the tutorials on the community.ubnt.com forum to create a JSON file in order to properly load the parameters into the USG.

In short, not for everyone.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I looked at their forum and found some info on the TV party.

I think I’ll be fine with the config, it doesn’t change too much from Cisco at the SSH level.

In short, it is possible. I’ll get started at the end of the year and I’ll keep you posted.

Hi @Papaschulz

Actually the config doesn’t seem too complicated.

I just want to point out that the USG game is not identical to EdgeRouter (apart from the OS which accepts the same commands). You don’t have a web interface on the USG.

If you’re comfortable with Cisco, this shouldn’t bother you too much.

You can see on the page [unifi - customization](https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/215458888-UniFi-How-to-further-customize-USG-configuration-with-config- gateway-json) how to add the config permanently after manual configuration.

Good hunting, it shouldn’t be too difficult given the already known settings.

Hi,

Yes, so if I understood correctly, you have to go through Unifi Controller for the basic config and then go to SSH for the more advanced config.

But I’m between two choices

What do you think?

Thanks for the info @Jim1926

Hi @Papaschulz

If you don’t plan to use other products from the unifi range such as access points or their switches, installing a controller for the router can be a negative point.

Do you plan to bring the USG-Pro-4 to the show? or rather in the garage in a Rack cabinet? Personally, the noise of the basic USG-Pro-4 is unbearable and is not made to be in the living room. I had to change the fans (I put these) to have a correct level. Of course this is not at all good for the warranty.

If you just want a router, the EdgeRouter Pro will be much more interesting because it has a fairly complete web interface. On the other hand I haven’t tested it and so noise level I don’t know but given the chassis it must be the same thing, not made for the living room.

For the USG, the controller allows you to have a small part of the parameters via a web page (of the controller), otherwise you can configure it entirely via SSH but it is more annoying. In addition, each modification on the controller displays the handmade configuration.

For this to work, you must:

  1. adopt it on the controller
  2. ssh connection and manual modification (see the page I gave you)
  3. export manual config
  4. copy the manual config and check that the JSON config is ok
  5. save the config in a file and put it in the right place on the controller
  6. try a modification on the controller and check that everything applies

A little restrictive but once in place it’s good. Also the controller offers you two or three nice stats.
