Internet box USB3 with external hard drives

Good morning… I have previously had 2 LaCie P9233 connected to my iMac, after a few minutes of inactivity both disks went into standby (setting via OS X), now I have installed both disks on the USB3 ports, both disks run continuously … can I set it somewhere so that the disks also go into standby?

No, there is no timer.
Mine switches to standby after about 40 minutes without any other queries. In this case, ok. Because otherwise it goes up and down non-stop.

Thanks, that’s what I thought… then I’ll have to take a look at LaCie! I’ve tested it a few times now, the disks don’t go into standby!

I now have the ext. Installed the Time Machine hard drive on the iMac again, everything works fine again. The 2nd ext. The hard drive for data is still attached to the IB, so Sonos, for example, can access the music. However, this isn’t perfect either, as the Finder often crashes when accessing data or an afp connection often doesn’t work.

What are your experiences with external hard drives on the USB3 ports?

I had bad experiences because the connection was regularly interrupted and this function makes no sense to me (at least at the moment).

I have now connected the USB3-FP directly to the PC again, where it works without any problems, and above all reliably and at all times!

I have had a 250Gb SSD connected to the Internet box since I installed it and was able to access my pictures practically at any time.

Even in Japan it was no problem to access these images via the mobile network or WLAN.

Even a few days ago in Holland, no problem either.

So I can’t understand your problem!!

N.B. I didn’t activate the power saving mode on the Internet box myself.

Had a WD My Book 2TB connected. It’s possible that there were always connection problems because of WD’s own software, but I never tried it with another FP.

Pure WD hard drives are fine and I also use them for PC repairs.

I also use the WD USB 2.5″ hard drives.

After my second external hard drive also had problems on the Ib, I installed it again on the iMac. This only contains data where SONOS, for example, picks up music, no TM backup. Since data was repeatedly lost during syncing, I no longer use the IB as network storage or the USB3 ports!

I have no problem at all with the connected USB SSD 250GB, use it as storage for the pictures.

Internal network and external access works great.

Is your USB hard drive powered by an external power supply or via the USB Anschluss?

There are 2 LaCie P9233 with their own power supply… absolutely no problem on the iMac, neither with data syncing nor with TM Backup. Both disks also go into standby on the iMac, which isn’t possible via the IB either.

I’ll leave it as it is for now, when the new Mac mini comes out, the external FB will be installed there and controlled via the server app.

It would be interesting to find the error. Is the iMAC connected directly to LAN when the USB hard drive is connected to the Internet box to create the TM backup?

Right, it would be really interesting to find the “error”, but now I’ll just exclude my iMac and my hard drives, leaving only the IB and its NAS function!

The iMac is connected via LAN, always has been, even before with QNAP NAS. The previous Netgear router also had a hard drive on it and it worked too.

What I know and have read is that a NAS or the IB for TM backup must have a certain function, script (don’t know exactly what it’s called). My configuration hasn’t actually changed, except that I replaced my previous router with the IB and no longer use the QNAP NAS.

Don’t get me wrong… I think the IB is a great device… it’s still NEW… with a few flaws… I have them myself! 😉

Hello everyone

,

I bought a WD My Password Ultra external hard drive and installed it on a PC.

Then I connected the external hard drive to the Swisscom Internet box!!
Then the message appears, “This USB device is not supported! Please remove the USB device”!!

I’m not a PC professional, I thought that you could connect all common external hard drives, I guess I was wrong!?

Does anyone know what I can do to make it work?

I would like to thank you in advance!!!

Where can I check this?
The packaging says USB 2.0 and USB 3.0!!!

It’s best to connect it to your PC and then look there under properties!

If there is no data on it yet, I would format the USB hard drive with NTFS.

So NTFS works fine for me. I would format the drive again with NTFS on the PC and then try again

….keep on rockin' 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

Does this have anything to do with the fact that I have an external hard drive!?

I really don’t know much about PCs and so on!!!:smileysad:
