Dear Community,
From May 2024 , we will be reviewing an Android 12 update for the Swisscom Box 21 (IP1800) for the first customers. An update for the Swisscom Box (IP2000) will be reviewed at a later date, while the older TV Box (UHD) will remain unchanged.
What will change for you
You can continue to use blue TV as before. In addition, you will benefit from:
- Access to more than 5,000 apps on Google Play
- Voice control with Google Assistant (in addition to the blue TV voice control)
- Bluetooth connectivity for wireless headphones etc.
- Chromecast built-in for easy streaming of photos, videos and music
Rollout details
The TV update will take place automatically from May and will initially be rolled out to a small number of customers in stages. We cannot specify exactly when individual customers will be migrated. We will inform affected customers prior to the migration directly on the TV home screen and, where possible, by e-mail.
If possible, we will install the update when the box is on standby. After the update, you will need to complete the following steps (this should only take a few minutes) to get everything up and running:
- Log in with your Google account (if you have one & wish to) → What are the benefits of an account?
- Accept Google’s Terms of Service (as you would when setting up an Android phone)
- Select Google Services
- Enable Google Assistant (optional)
All of your existing TV settings, recordings and purchases will stay as they were. The only thing you need to set up again is the remote control and language, and you will also need to log back in to specific apps such as Netflix.
Is a Google account necessary?
You do not need a Google account to continue watching blue TV. You can still access all TV content and features as before. You will only need a Google account for additional features such as Google Play. If you skip this step following the TV update, you can also complete it later (Settings > System > Google settings). → Create a Google Account
Note that we do not send data to Google either about you or your TV usage.
You can find more information here (including information about voice control and Google Assistant):
