MyCloud data export

Hello forum

Although there are already posts on the topic, I would like to write one as well to emphasize how much this functionality is missing.

MyCloud definitely needs a data export function (same as Web API).

This is a standard functionality for cloud services that should have been built in from the start.

This is how data export should work (from the user perspective):

By clicking on the “[Download data]” button at a sensible place in the account menu, a file archive should be compiled on the server side and made available to the user for download as soon as the server has everything together. The file archive should consist of one or more ZIP archive files with a maximum size of 2 GB and contain a snapshot of all data, photos (including album information), etc. of the MyCloud account.

It would be really good if there was a web API for this functionality so that data export could be used for automated backups.

I’m not entirely sure, but according to the GDPR, IMO the provider would even be obliged to provide this functionality. Of course, the GDPR does not apply to Switzerland. However, complying with it is still a good guide for cloud services.

I don’t think Swisscom can retain customers due to the lack of data export (keyword: walled garden). On the contrary, the presence of this function would probably increase trust in MyCloud because one could have a backup in case of doubt.

P.S.: I understand that for technical reasons there is no WebDAV connection or desktop synchronization for the photos. Just because in MyCloud photos several files can have the same name, which is impossible in conventional file systems and therefore via WebDAV / Sync. However, these technical hurdles do not exist with a data export function.

WebDav Clients – myCloud - Help

In order to access myCloud via WebDav you need a WebDav-enabled client. This is software on your computer or smartphone that enables access. Windows and macOS provide their own client. Here you will find the instructions for using the Windows and the [macOS](https:/ /help.mycloud.ch/hc/de/articles/360010310540-WebDav-f%C3%BCr-macOS) clients.

How fast and stable WebDav works depends very much on the client used.

If you have problems with stability and speed, we recommend using specialized software. There are many free and paid offers on the Internet.

A batch export would be a really good thing; especially so that redundant backups can be created. Unfortunately, there is little response from the developers on this matter either.

Personally, I find a button that can actually export EVERYTHING very practical - so changing providers wouldn’t be that difficult.
