Import Photos from iMac, Photo application

  • Good morning,

I am trying to import Photos stored in the Photos application (photo list or album) to the cloud without success.

I do it directly from the website. I can import jpgs from “images” but not from Photo, so the method is good.

I do this from an iMac.

    Thank you for your help,

    • @Dianette67 Hello

      Thanks for the feedback

I thought I understood in your first post that you could upload photos to myCloud from the “Images” folder.

As you indicate this is not the case ok - for the simple reason that you use the “Photos program from Mac” to download the photos that are on the camera. These are not great at all because you are limited for the following reasons, whether to copy them to an external hard drive or USB key or send them to the myCloud web page because for this manipulation you need to create a temporary folder.

I will explain to you later in this post how to recover the originals because seen from this angle, the photos do not actually go to the Images folder. This program uses its own hidden folder in the program which is in fact a Gas factory, you will find out for yourself when you discover the solution.

I learned at the beginning that I discovered the Mac universe the program was called Aperture, iPhoto and now is called Photo that you had to download photos whether from a camera or an iPhone etc. that they had to be downloaded using the original program called: “Transfert d’images.app” and from there actually all the photos end up in the “Images” folder which I do always. In addition, in this solution you could open them with any professional or other programs available on the market without making copies.

For this solution, to open the original folders, you must open the “Images” folder by clicking on the photo library: “Photothèque.photoslibrary” _and before clicking on the latter you must press at the same time time on the “control” key, this opens a drop-down menu where you will press the line “Show package contents” a folder will open with several folders, there you click on the folder titled: “originals” you will discover a multitude of sub-folders where the photos are hidden, you will be surprised by what I call a gas factory because the photos are distributed for the same subject in several folders, don’t ask me why!

From there I advise you to make a temporary file to copy the originals and then attach them to myCloud. Once the operation is complete you can delete this folder otherwise it will create duplicates.

In the future what I advise you to do is employer the program “Image transfer app” and from this program you can delete photos just in case! Next, to see them through the “Photos” program, you would need to import a photo folder into the application that you have named according to your wishes or simply individual photos. The program will not duplicate them since the originals are already in the folderImages

I hope I helped you a little more

    @Dianette67 Hello

These are completely normal for the Mac “Photos” application and only a presentation for reading photos. What you see when you open the Photo application is a table of contents, widgets so it’s impossible to transfer them because they are not JPGs. and the images are very small.

What you do by opening the image folder (these are the originals) and you transfer from this folder to myCloud and absolutely correct.

    Hello Doremi,

Sorry for my late response and thank you for your comment.

However, I am perplexed because I cannot find the place where the photos are actually stored. Having to copy them and create another copy doesn’t seem right to me, a bit tedious and cumbersome (copy and not just a view)

When I import my photos to make albums (ifolor, etc.) I take them from Photos and they are not just widgets but jpegs.

    I’ll try again. THANKS

    Hello

As you say in your first post just like my answer: “Images folder”

---—-When I import my photos to make albums (ifolor, etc.) I take them from Photos and they are not just widgets but jpegs.— –

Ifolor is an additional program where you can see the photos for the developments, we don’t agree!

For this you open the Mac photos application you view the photos you want (these are the widgets) once selected the chosen photos either by copying or moving them to the Ifolor application - the photos application will copy the original photos located in the folder called “Images” and copy them to the Ifolor application.

For Mycloud you could actually do the same. To do this you must create a temporary folder on the desktop, and select the desired photos from the “Photos” application and copy them to the temporary folder, the process will be the same as explained above.

This is useless for the simple reason that you will end up with duplicates. So it’s much simpler to transfer the photos as you indicate directly from the “Images” folder

    Thank you Doremi.

That’s what I do but under the Images folder is not my photos but just access to the iMac’s photo library.

when I select the Photos Library entry to access it, the error message appears and nothing can be done.

the photos, when I load them from my device to Photos, are not stored under images.

And I don’t want to have to do other manipulations, as you say, by creating duplicates. I just did this to try (create a temporary folder to copy the photos into).

so the problem remains the same. Have things changed for newer Macs?

    thanks, dianette67

    Hi @Doremi, hi @Dianette67

I think you are both right, but to try to understand you have to look from another angle.

The image folder contains the originals with their “physical” file names with the address on the storage media.

Other folders contain what are called logical links, that is, a file name that points to another file name instead of the file itself.

The difference in behavior of reading programs/scripts depends on their ability to trace back along a logical link to find the physical file at the end. In this case, ifolor is able to trace the links to find the original image.

As for the location of photos downloaded from the device, this will depend on its configuration. You have to look at which “cloud/account” it downloads them to and then in which folder of this cloud. “Photos” is too generic to be reliable information when searching from other equipment. Look in the image folder if there is a subfolder that could correspond and contain the downloaded images.

As I’m in the PC & Android world, I can only give you general ideas for searching.

    Good morning,

I didn’t intervene earlier because I didn’t fully understand the initial question or your configuration.

Personally, I have all my photos in the Photos program. It’s convenient, although there are drawbacks.

My photos are stored in Apple iCloud. But I have them physically in the Photos application on my iMac and on my iPad (I have an iPad with 1 TB of memory) while on my iPhone I only have “view”.

I transfer photos to myCloud (those that I want to see from friends who have Swisscom Tv) from my iPad. I open the Photos app. I select the photos I want to send and mark them; I go to the “share” icon and there it opens multiple choices including myCloud. I click on the latter and send my photos.

NB: As a precaution, I also regularly save my photos on Blu-ray DVDs. This is one of the disadvantages that I mentioned, I have to export the photos from my Photos application to a temporary directory on the hard drive (which I delete once the photos are on the Blu-ray DVD) to copy them to the Blu DVDs. -ray.

    Have a good weekend.

THANK YOU Dormi for all this explanation.

I think I’m going to give up using the Swisscom cloud unless I do it occasionally because I don’t really see myself changing my method to pass tens of thousands of photos this way.

I understand that the Swisscom method does not seem to be able to read the photos stored in my Mac easily. It’s a shame.

Best regards, I will try to digest all this information and respond to my next contact.

have a good evening and thank you for everything

    Thank you Prelude,

Nothing is simple but I notice that you use Photos and I will continue to do so.

I also have an iPad so I’m going to explore this a bit although I think I may need to increase the size of my apple cloud.

In short, it’s not yet won, especially since my iMac is quite old and is starting to become quite unmanageable, especially since I had to change my Apple ID!

    thank you very much, dianette67
