Swisscom Box21: smaller but just as nice

New addition to the Swisscom blue TV: family we are pleased to welcome the Swisscom Box21 (IP1800)! It will be available online or in the Swisscom Shop from March 24, at the price of 119 francs. [> To the Online Shop](https://www.swisscom.ch/fr/clients-prives/produits /tv/details.html/swisscom-box-21-11047721) Swisscom-Box21.jpg

The Swisscom Box21 lets you do almost everything you did with the Swisscom Box. But taking up less space, because it is not equipped with a speaker and microphone. So, you can’t say “Hey Swisscom”, but voice control remains available via the microphone button on the remote control.

This overview shows you the differences between the two Swisscom Box:

Hello,

It’s great, I didn’t test the Swisscom Box 21, because I wanted to keep the Swisscom Box. But knowing that I am currently moving, I will be able to order it for the additional bedroom as soon as I am settled. Right at the right time 🙂

I note that the table says that voice control via the remote control is not available with the little news. In fact it works very well. It’s only the hands-free “Hey Swisscom” that’s not there.

Welcome to this little news 😀

It takes up less space, is easier to use and less distracting.

This new choice for a Swisscom Box can delight old or new customers 😉

Indeed as noted by @DanielD

it is possible to give voice commands via the remote control

Long live the Swisscom Box 21!

What guarantee do we have that our wifi card (and the associated drivers) is less junk than the previous ones? In other words, it supports wifi connection to the current standard (other than via the opaque and inoperative WPS of its predecessors?)

Considering that for two generations this has not evolved, we can reasonably doubt any change in strategy on this one.

The strategy is rather to promote the excessive installation of WLAN box2 in parallel. And increased electro smog for users.

“… I can confirm, the Box is good, previously I had the UHD Box (IP1400). The 21 works stably, voice assistance other than via the remote control, I don’t have any no need, so it’s okay The quality of the results when using it is better** and I observed that teletext works faster** (as an old school user, that’s it. an important feature for me). For HD box users, it’s a good alternative to other existing boxes And it consumes less energy… ” Consumption of Swisscom devices | Swisscom

Hello @JMI

The new Swisscom Box 21 has a different WLAN chipset than the UHD Box or the Swisscom Box.

However, we cannot guarantee that a change of hardware will resolve the situation.

In fact, no new functionality in this sense has been announced. The behavior of WiFi remains the same with the new box and the use of an Ethernet cable is still recommended.

Good morning,

I received it today! Very pretty, very cute.

My first impressions: Very positive.
It is much faster than the previous ones, especially for changing channels.

Unfortunately for me:

We were a few “chosen ones” to experience problems with the Swisscom Box (ip2000). As a reminder, for certain customers who have 10 GB fiber, fast forwarding does not work on several channels. And zapping “crooks” all x channels.
That’s the first thing I wanted to check. And it’s the same with the Swisscom Box 21 (ip1800).
I will have to go back to the UHD Box (ip1400). Damage.

Well the schmilblick is not really moving forward.

This is the same Norman response that I was given when I asked if switching to a more recent router or/and exchanging my very probably defective UHD Box would solve the problem. Which ultimately ended in failure.

What is very confusing is that with the number of UHD boxes in service, there are certainly dozens of people who have been confronted with different funny situations in establishing this direct wifi connection.

And that no solution that works ends up being offered to me really surprises me. Moreover, I repeat, none of the other devices connected via wifi on my network have any difficulty connecting.

Only this Blue-TV Box UHD “could not connect to the internet”, to repeat the sad message that appears at each attempt.

@LôLô

thanks for the contribution

>… will it be possible to control it with a universal remote control (Bose 700)?…

if there is no specific help found or a solution received by the Community

contact the manufacturer of the universal remote control

not that of the Swisscom Box 21 (IP1800)

in general these are IR-Codes to be provided, see this discussion on the Community in French

[IR code for UHD TV Box with IR receiver - Swisscom Community](https://community.swisscom.ch/t5/Utilisation-avec-TV-Box/Code-IR-pour-TV-Box-UHD-avec-r%C3%A9cepteur -IR/m-p/615171)

this discussion on the Community in German is closer to the request

"… For the Bose RC to control the Swisscom box, you can use a suitable IR adapter and your Swisscom TV box. If you have an IP1400 or IP2000 box, you need this adapter here:

… How you should then set up a new Bose system can then tell you where the Bose instructions are. Unfortunately I don’t have a new system myself and I can’t tell you in detail…."

This discussion in the German Community specifically addresses the Bose 700

it is possible to contact this Swisscom expert (UrsSch) by private message if necessary

and ask him directly if this solution is also functional for the *TERM_9__ (IP1800)

if the manufacturer says it supports Swisscom Box 21 (IP1800)

it is up to him to provide the necessary information

Swisscom already provides a remote control with all TV-Box models

If I order the 2021 box from my Swisscom Login and plug it in as soon as I receive it, will it “cancel” the existing box (UHD)? If I ask this it is because I do not want Swisscom to charge me CHF 5.-/month thinking that it is a 2nd box.

Another point: does it take over all the parameters of the UHD Box (favorites, apps, etc.) from the previous Box (UHD) or do you have to reprogram everything?

THANKS.

Hello!

The new box will ask you if you want it to replace the current one during installation.

You will find all your settings from the previous Box, except perhaps the applications that you will have to reload.

Good afternoon.

Good morning,

A new box… but not much that changes from the old one… less fabric, less weight than some downsides actually 😛 lol

But when will we spend money on an app rather than hardware?

@Black Mamba,

If ever, “the experts” of my service, kick in when it’s not swisscom approved equipment…even faster than the swisscom technical service!

I don’t know if it won’t be the same for the remote control…

A “made in China” product that heats up and is unreliable, like the previous boxes. Swisscom is really about breakdowns and incompetence serving management bonuses…!
