Fritzbox 7583

  • Hello folks.

If you are looking for an alternative router…

I’ve been using the new Fritzbox 7583 g.fast for some time. It can do up to 1.5 GBit in 212 MHz, or even 3 GBit with bonding, if that ever happens to us.

I don’t have a g.fast yet, it won’t arrive until the end of the year, but the box runs perfectly on the SC Anschluss.

I’m excited to see how she does then.

    So also a great alternative.

    What do you think?

The 7583 will certainly also work with g.Fast, because the almost identical predecessor model 7582 has been recommended by INIT7 for a long time for customers of their Copper7 subscription who also have a g.Fast mCAN from Swisscom.

If you don’t need the additional ISDN telephone connections anyway, I wouldn’t be so sure whether the additional functions of the 7583 compared to the 7582 can ever be used in Switzerland and whether the additional price of over 100 CHF can be justified .

For the VDSL2 and g.Fast installations currently in use, the 7583 has no advantages over the 7582 and Swisscom’s strategy is actually already moving away from g.Fast and towards XPON technologies, i.e. foregoing the implementation of Glass on copper in the mCAN, but rather installing a passive optical splitter in the mCAN and then continuing the individual Anschluss lines Copper but also using fiber optic cables to the individual customer routers.

It may well be that g.Fast in Switzerland will never be expanded beyond the 106 MHz currently used to the theoretically possible maximum of 212 MHz, but will be replaced directly by XPON as the next expansion step.

I’ve been using a Fritz!Box 7530 for a few weeks now. It runs absolutely perfectly on a vectoring VDSL2 Swisscom Anschluss. However, I will be switching to another provider soon.

The 7530’s Wi-Fi is more than sufficient for Internet access plus a few Sonos boxes and a printer.

    Hello everyone

I’ve read a lot about the box. I would be very interested. just: where did you get the box? I can’t find them for free sale in Switzerland.

    Greetings René

Nothing wrong with that at all.

At the moment, I’m simply not buying any new WiFi-enabled devices that don’t already support WiFi 6, because the effective next generation shift will really take place in the next 6-24 months.

Right now, apart from the fact that I would actually need a new device immediately, I would neither buy a Fritzbox 7582 nor 7583, as both would be replaced within about 6 months by the next models with WiFi 6 already installed.

The moment to buy something new is always bad. After Wifi 6 comes Wifi 7, 8, 9, regardless of whether it helps or whether you really need it. The main thing is that people buy new devices again after 2 years and the old ones end up in electronic waste.

I currently have 8 of the boxes in our network on G.fast, 7 are running without any problems. But if there are problems on the line, then you have to check for yourself. The boxes are released on the network, but when analyzing the problem, an IB2 or IB S or P with SFP must be connected to the port. So don’t sell the IB2 🙂

ITU has defined G.fast at 212MHz and has been in operation at Net.Cologne since last week from another Chinese provider. Our mCAN can handle 106Mhz per port, without HW change it is no longer possible. Due to the quality of the cables within the houses, we won’t go any higher for the time being. There are also limits in Cologne, so it can only be used optimally for very short lines.

    Best regards

@breitenloo You can only buy the 7582 from Quadcom, which is why you won’t find the 7583 either. I had to get the 7583 from somewhere else.

The 7583 runs almost perfectly with g. It’s the international version. Current firmware version 7.02. It is important that you set the country to “Switzerland”. Then “Swisscom All IP” can also be selected as a profile.
