Does roaming only not work in the USA?
Have you previously been able to successfully log into a roaming partner's network in another country? Or were you never able to test it?
Did you fly directly from Switzerland to the USA or via a stopover in another country? If you have a stopover in another country: Did your cell phone still work?
I think there are only the following options: allow roaming yes, or allow roaming no and this then applies to all countries. You've already checked about the limit and that's not the reason.
I would also say that if the limit were active, you would still have to be able to log into a network, but if there are no included units in the subscription, you cannot make calls or access the Internet, but incoming SMS would have to work.
It sounds more like your SIM would not be allowed to log into a foreign network. But Wingo support should really be able to do something here.
However, I can only advise you against switching to another Swiss provider. I have a business cell phone that runs on the Sunrise network via the company and I'm just having trouble with it. I work in the field and am very difficult to reach my customers. Calls are often dropped and the internet speed is a disaster in many places. With my private Swisscom cell phone, however, I have consistently good performance, the voice quality is good and the internet connection is usually fast to very fast.
Salt isn't much better either, I would think twice about it.
Hello Magic Max
I wasn't able to test roaming before but I'm flying to Spain in 3 weeks!
We had a direct flight from ZRH to NYC.
Wingo support confirmed to me that my settings in the portal are correct and those on the phone as well.
I tested my partner's SIM card (without changing the phone settings) and it worked, so the error was with Wingo.
As far as switching to another provider is concerned, I fully understand your objections, but the fact is that I simply had no performance even though I chose the subscription and all the settings correctly.
It can't get much worse, can it? 😉
I will contact Wingo tomorrow Friday as we are back now and I had no data roaming until the end.

@Theuzeugeupp50 Can you please occasionally report on which channel you correspond with Wingo support? Have your questions been answered?
I realize that due to the time difference and limited operating hours, I cannot always expect immediate answers.
Walter
sorry I didn't see this thread before.
I recently had a customer in the USA with a sunrise subscription and roaming package. The connection didn't work after the flight either. Sunrise can either reset the cell phone connection itself (as long as the cell phone is switched off - ideally 15 minutes) or you can reset the network settings of your smartphone yourself. Option 1 worked perfectly for the customer. With the second roaming package after a month, the whole thing was no longer necessary.
Hello everyone
I had my problems in the USA, Wingo claims to this day that everything worked and I also had a data connection... I never received a receipt or an explanation as to how they came up with this!
Now I was in Spain, with the same mobile, same SIM and same settings.
The difference to the USA was that as soon as I landed I got the “Welcome to Spain” message from Wingo. I never received this in the USA....... the issue of Wingo was settled for me, I as a customer did everything, followed the required steps and still never received an explanation or solution.
Too bad!
It has nothing directly to do with your problem, but I also had some "problems" with Wingo support.
In short: I switched to Wingo when they offered 5G and promised that it would provide up to 2Gbit/s. After explicitly asking, I was also told that they use the same 5G profile as Swisscom and that there is no deprioritization. On the first day I still had 1.7Gbit/s and 150Mbit/s upload at my location. After that it didn't go above 500Mbit/s.
The SIM profile etc. were reset several times and I was in direct contact with the technician. In the end it was just said that the antenna was probably at capacity. Can't be, because I also tested in an industrial area on Sunday. With my Swisscom SIM I always had over 1Gbit/s with the same cell phone (iPhone 14 Pro Max Dual SIM). They haven't been able to figure it out until today.
Long story short: I switched back to Swisscom after almost 2 months because the promises were not being kept. I was able to leave the contract without notice. So everything was great. I understand that this is a budget provider. But when problems arise, they are probably completely overwhelmed.
Can you now achieve these 1.7 Gbits again at this location with the Swisscom Abo? But you have to be a little lucky if you can achieve such a speed at your location and of course this is only possible with optimal reception. I have seen such high values myself, but rarely.
This example regarding support shows that you have to make certain compromises with Wingo, but they are very attractively priced. But even if we're honest, whether I have almost 2 Gbit's in the download or "only" 500 Mbit's, I don't notice anything on my smartphone or tablet, no matter what I do with it, except of course during the speed test 😀
Samsi Yep, I'm getting back to speed:
Of course everything has to be right to achieve this value. Sometimes it was the case that I only had 100Mbit/s and with Swisscom 500Mbit/s. This is a luxury problem. But I already notice it when I use the mobile hotspot a lot to work and sometimes move large files back and forth. A run-of-the-mill user won't notice the difference.

If you're on a mobile! This 5G speed is important (I don't know what you do with it other than speed measurements), and you are willing to pay the corresponding price, then it's OK with Swisscom.
btw:
I know a lot of mobile hardcore users and they can live with 4G at Wingo without any problems. (They never do speed measurements either)
But everyone as they wish...
btw2:
Based on our own experience, Wingo generally works in the U.S. - So it doesn't seem to be a general problem
….keep on rockin' 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

At the moment, not everything seems to be stable when it comes to 4G/5G.
I even know two power user colleagues who have deliberately decided not to use 5G in the meantime because (at least it feels like) they currently get better mobile connections on pure 4G 🙂

As I said, I use the hotspot a lot. Of course, this also works at slower speeds. Then it just takes longer. But whatever. Everyone as he wants.
For me it was more about the statement that the 5G profiles are the same and Wingo said that they offer the same speed 1:1 without deprioritization, which is not true.

That's your experience, ours is different, the colleague and his wife's two iPhones (1 x SC business subscription and 1 x SC private subscription)
No difference shown in 5G speed tests.
Sometimes our Google Pixels with Wingo were a few Mbit faster, sometimes the iPhones.
What I have found, however, is that despite the 5G display, the speed occasionally gets stuck at 4G, then with the Pixel devices you have to go to the SIM settings and there in the "Preferred network type" and briefly switch from 5G to 3G and if 3G is then connected is back to 5G.
Then, depending on the location, our speed went back over 1Gbit or higher if the antenna allowed it.
Regarding the USA, we had no problems with either Pixel smartphone in 2022 or November 23.
5G also worked without any problems, this time Verizon Wireless finally worked as a network provider including 5G.
Verizon's coverage is significantly better than ATT or t-mobile, especially in remote locations.
