Discontinuation of SMS from Bluewin Webmail service

Dear Community

From 1 October 2020, it will no longer be possible to send an SMS from Bluewin Webmail. The reason for the discontinuation is that use of this service has fallen to such an extent that provision of the ‘SMS from Webmail’ service is no longer viable. In addition, Bluewin Webmail is scheduled for a major upgrade and modernisation in the next year, and this step is required in advance of this. As an alternative, we recommend using either e-mail, SMS from your mobile phone or third-party programs or apps.

Do you know any alternative programs that you could share here?

We look forward to your comments.

Best regards

Thalbia

You might use Messages as an SMS app on your mobile.

The app also supports managing it via your desktop device:

  • Open Messages app on the mobile and make it your default SMS app
  • Via options menu ("...") on top right select "Messages for web"
  • Follow instructions on screen, basically...

Enjoy web-application messaging on your desktop. The same also works for whatsapp-web in case you're interested.

As a plus you will also be able to use RCS within the Messages app. Basically this will provide similar functionality like Whatsapp but based on RCS standard.

Keep in mind that those are cloud services and you're potentially exposing information to Google or other service providers.
