How to use gaming router Netgear XR500 Nighthawk Pro Gaming

Hello everyone

Before I switched to Swisscom I used the following gaming router:

Netgear XR500 Nighthawk Pro Gaming

Since I have certain functions such as: If you would like to continue using GeoFilter, I would not like to let this router gather dust in a corner.

Are there ways to use this router together with the Internet Box?

I don’t think it’s easily possible to completely replace the InternetBox with this router?

I would prefer that everything could be controlled via this router or the OS.

Kind regards

Marco

You can operate the Nighthawk in a router cascade behind the Internet box.

To do this, you have to configure your own network that differs from 192.168.1.x, for example 192.168.2.x

You then plug a LAN cable from a LAN port on the Internet box into the WAN port on the Nighthawk in order to connect it to the Internet via the Internet box.

Your own router is then the only client in the Internet box’s network.

You then connect all of your clients (except perhaps the TV boxes) directly to the Nighthawk’s LAN and WLAN. You then switch off the WLAN of the Internet box because it only provides Internet access for the Nighthawk.

You need the Internet box either way because the Netgear part doesn’t have a modem built in.

You can’t use the Netgear part alone for Internet access anywhere in the world. There always has to be a cable/DSL modem in front of it somewhere or a fiber converter.

So cascade the Netgear part behind the Internet box - it usually works easily. With all the consequences like double NAT etc.
