FritzBox behind 4G router: DHCP from FritzBox possible?

  • Hello everyone

Since there is no landline available in a restaurant in the mountains, Swisscom sent us a Huawei brand 4G router, type LTE CPE B593, including a SiM card for internet access. This subscription is called Wireless Home Connection. This means that internet access also works.

However, the 4G router does not offer as many functions as the FritzBox and the number of simultaneous WLAN users is limited to 30. Not exactly lavish for a restaurant. With the FritzBox we would also like to provide a guest WiFi hotspot without a password. The internal, protected WLAN should also be running. No problem with the FritzBox.

There are various articles on the topic of “FritzBox behind routers”, but in which the router is always the DHCP server. But how precise do the IP settings have to be if I want to use the FritzBox as a DHCP server?

4G router Swisscom, IP 192.168.100.1, DHCP disabled, WiFi disabled.

FritzBox 3390, static IP 192.168.100.2, gateway & DNS 192.168.100.1, DHCP activated, IP pool 192.168.100.10 to 192.168.100.254, WLAN activated, connected to the 4G router via LAN cable.

Is that true or am I making a mistake in my thinking?

    Thanks for your help.

    • Doesn’t it automatically work correctly if “Existing access via WLAN” is selected for the access data on the Fritz!Box?

It’s astonishing that Swisscom makes such a mobile Internet network available to so many users - the limit will be reached quickly?

    Hello Jüre

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

Due to the weak mobile signal, we are dependent on outdoor antennas. So nothing with USB modem.

The main question remains whether I can use the 2nd router (FritzBox) as a DHCP server.

Do you have an exact type name for this 4G router to see whether bridge mode etc. is possible?

Or is it the 4G router at the link below?

    Hello WalterB

Yes, it is exactly this router.

    Hello Jüre

Perfect! That is exactly the solution. But I will select “Existing access via LAN”.
